Was the Another Girl, Another Planet music video official?

This was a little piece of blink history I had all but forgotten, but it popped back up in my head today that in addition to Not Now, the Greatest Hits album used Another Girl, Another Planet as a promo for the release.  But while Not Now as an actual single, Another Girl Another Planet wasn't.  However, like Not Now, there was a music video designed in the same style of the Not Now video.

For those that don't recall or want a refresher this is the official Not Now music video:

(Fun fact, as I recall, they released an early version of the Not Now music video that I think was edited a little bit shorter, but I believe within only a day or so they removed that version and uploaded this longer version.  Wonder if anyone has that initial version, could be a little piece of lost blink media at this point)

And this is the Another Girl Another Planet video.  While you can find the Not Now video in the blink youtube channel, you will not find this Another Girl Another Planet video, and as such the only version that seems to have survived is sadly 240p, but this was the video.

It has the same structure as the Not Now music video, but is clearly edited differently, the Kerrang overlays show that this did indeed air on TV.

I remember we briefly talked about the video on these boards back when it released, acknowledged its existence, but then (at least I) just kinda quickly forgot about it.  But now that I think back on it, I have to question, was this official?  It does appear to have been a promo single like Anthem Part 2, but you can find the live Anthem Part 2 recording on blink's youtube page that was used for the promo single's video, again you can't find this AGAP video there.  Was this perhaps an elaborate fake?  Or maybe Kerrang independently made the video in the same style as the Not Now video at the time for their station (is that even something that feasibly could happen)?

I mean it's a simple enough video, it's just stitching together blink footage in the same way that the Not Now video was done, it would be as easy to pass off as legit today as those typography lyric videos everyone was doing a few years back.  I dunno, I'm leaning towards official, but there are aspects of it that always seemed kinda odd to me.

Thanks Mike for posting.

I’ve never seen this before.

My first thought was to see if there was any footage unique to the video, but I couldn’t find anything original.

“Official” is subjective.  Id say it’s not an official music video. But it definitely looks to be 50/50 on whether it officially came from the blink camp. I say that because it looks just as legit as Not Now production wise.

Some legit organization, whether it be Kerrang or the label, put this together for an audience on TV.

Perhaps blink never embraced this due to the fact it’s a cover. For example, The song was never as popular as the cover for The Boys of Summer by The Ataris.  (Intentional or not). Or perhaps embracing this would undermine the video for Not Now, which the band/label likely wanted to promote more.

As an aside, I have to say that video definitely gave me a blast to the past. Since this supplements Not Now, the whole vibe behind it gave me the vibes “blink was a good run, we’ll certainly miss them. here’s another video to remember them.” Definitely brought out feelings I had from 2005-2008.

It still don't sound like Tom on guitar on another girl to me. Never thought he actually did the guitars on that recording

The intro lick is where this is really apparent.  The touch doesn’t match Tom’s. For example, it almost sounds like there are some bends or slides going on that aren’t from his usual arsenal. Then again, it could be due to the fact that this is a cover of a song that has those, or it matches Tom’s idea of “modern blink”.

Heres a studio vid of them talking about it, and Tom mentions layering guitars as well

November 2004.

If somebody told me it was partially completed when Tom quit and they had to fill in the gaps, I wouldn’t be surprised. Tom quit February 2005 and this was released December 2005.

I never thought about this song not being recorded by Tom on its entirely, to be honest. Sounds crazy but there's a little chance for it to have happened in the middle of blink's storm. I don't know, but I don't think so.

in retrospect it's weird to me that this song was on their Greatest Hits album lol. I love this cover but it definitely feels like an odd choice to include.

Likely was one of those “throw some new shit in there too” to drive the sales up a bit.

Well the song was recorded for the Meet the Barkers intro, as I recall there was even a part in that series that shows them recording the cover for the show.  I always assumed it was just a case of, well blink is done, and we have one unreleased full studio recording of theirs and their Greatest Hits album about to drop, lets just throw it on the end of there.

MTV Germany uploaded a better version of the music video for "Another Girl, Another Planet". It's written at the end copyright 2005 Island Records

I'd say that makes it pretty legit.  Odd how it's not on their actual youtube page.  But in retrospect, I recall that Wishing Well was also a promo single with a video using live footage that was being recorded for the Blinkumentary lol.  And I'm not seeing that video on their youtube page either.  Though I could see there feasibly being some weird licensing rights or some shit and the guys that were actually filming and editing the documentary that was never to be, actually own the video over blink themselves, so I can see why that one isn't there.

wow, this is something i'd never heard of. thibaut finding that mtv germany page makes it wholly legit -- though perhaps a video only put together for overseas by the universal island team. not now was clearly worked as a single worldwide, whereas any media associated with AGAP (its promo CD-R, this video) seem relegated to the UK/EU, with universal island markings. very very interesting find, definitely in the same vein as wishing well as an oddity in the blink video canon.

I remember this discussion from that era. Not Now was used in the US as a promotional single for the Greatest Hits. As Not Now was already on the UK Untitled album they (the record company) trimmed the not now video and put Another Girl Another Planet audio over it for promotion in the UK (Ireland get the UK releases) and looks like Europe although I don't think Not Now is on the EU version.

I could be wrong but I don't think there is any footage in the AGAP video that is not take from Not Now.

It’s a cover, it’s Tom getting close to the original.
