I get where people are coming from, but Mark, Tom, & Travis haven't done a 'bit production' album ever, outside of partially TOYPAJ/Self Titled, so it's pretty cool if you just allow it to be (much like letting Neighborhoods be shit/raw/indie quality).

Some of the drumming and processing at points pisses me off, but production itself really doesn't.  It's 2023, so it's just not going to sound like the old or it might almost feel 'out of place' or stale if they dialed it back, even though we'd love it as diehards a tad better.

Yeah I don't have much of a problem with the amount of sheen and production touches or the instrumentation, I don't think I would personally choose some of the vocal effects or drum sounds... but I actually think the guitar/bass tones are wayyyy better than I expected and the amount of thought and care that went into every song is truly noticeable.

My complaint is mostly about the levels, whether it was in the mixing or mastering. The snare is so prominent in most songs it drowns out the vocals, and in some moments it all sounds like the gain was up too high in ProTools when they bounced the track or something, it's almost hissy and crushed and harsh to the eardrums haha.

BUT the good far outweighs the bad. I'm in heaven over here with a great new Blink album. I wouldn't bring up any of this if I wasn't in this thread haha.

My biggest gripe are the layers and layers of guitars that Tom could never do live. At least with Finn’s producing and the mixing they had in the past, you could actually hear the different guitar tracks going on and differentiate them from eachother. That’s not really the case here on this record, they all melt together and sound unnatural as hell

Yup same, the drums make for a fun jam out full blast, but requires taking breaks because it's way too overbearing at times.

Except on YDKWYG bridge ;)

I do think some of the choruses miss a trick. YDKWYG and Terrified…I’m left thinking, is that it? Like Terrified could be an absolute banger if there was more to that…some descending/ascending Mark/Tom harmonies? Idk

I'm glad they didn't trick up every song to be a DWM, MYTK to be honest. Would get to be a bit much.

Yeah - I get what you mean but idk, just repeated ‘YDKWYG’ in the chorus felt…a bit like a failed nut or something.

I have no issues with production other than the fact that Edging sounds weird now. There's like a weird glitchy sound at certain parts. I thought it was just the rip, but even on YouTube I heard the album version of Edging have a weird sound to it.

yeah i noticed this few weeks back

it's like the remix/remaster of it is better than what it was last year but there's weird little cut offs in between some of the notes. it happens the very first time the octave chord plays in the first verse and there's a similar cut off in the notes somewhere in the chorus too

those weren't there on the edging mix from last year

Seems like a split on this.  To me it felt very fitting or intentional move just like Tom yelling on Violence, Distraction type songs.

I love the simply repeating but enhancing the passion behind it after each repeat.

But that’s just me, and that seems to be ppl’s problem with the song.  Ironically that’s my reason I don’t seek out DWM more, don’t want to hear repeated chorus always.

I am super impressed with the record, a lot of songs are amazing and the variety of them makes for a very colourful record.

The production is absolute ass though. Travis is such a great drummer, yet the drums sound completely lifeless throughout the record.

this is my own opinion though. I‘m sure that they wanted that kind of sound, i‘m just no fan of it.

Only negatives I have is how much it feels like the they felt the need to pander to certain audiences with certain songs. Maybe that's just what had to be done with a release as important and in the spotlight as this was - but was annoyed hearing reused riffs, vocal progressions and timing (?) of a lot of the songs- but then again I remind myself Tom has built his entire career off of this too so its not a real big surprise - just annoyed in some parts how obvious it is that it almost feels like low hanging fruit at times.

Watch the World, Adam's Song, Up All Night, Anthem Pt 2, There Is, And I, AVA tricks, all these reused melodies etc.

Though again,  overall still has me loving the entire album as a whole on first release. I put it up there for sure.

You’re an idiot, I literally said you can at least hear the different guitar tracks going on and differentiate them from each other on Finn’s records. This record they all melt together and sound unnatural. I guess you stopped reading after the first sentence, or you’re just in denial about this record?

On Finn’s record, Tom could pick the main parts out that he wanted to do live and it would still sound like the song, although maybe missing a lead riff over it. He can’t do that with these records, it will require layers and layers to sound full. Hence, unnatural

My only issue is how loud the drums are. I just listened to Knuckle Pucks new record and although I think blinks is vastly better the drums are easier to listen to on Knuckle Puck.

Personally I saw the whole album as a love letter to themselves. I love that we can hear all their work in this album.

Since not a ton of people will read this to maybe ruin it, MTYK chorus focus on Tom’s voice, specifically “AND over” final run, sounds like he’s puking.

can’t unhear the processing on that, but still a fave song.

You’ve criticised this album a lot for someone who apparently loves it
