The Green Day Thread

I had some time to hear to the new song with video clip they released today and I really liked it. Sweet love song all genders included. Like it a lot. Can't wait to finish so I can go hear the album.

Yeah the album loses major points on originality. The shameless recycling of the tune to Pink's So What in One Eyed Bastard is totally inexcusable.  I don't even care for Pink, but I was well aware of that tune because it was a pretty big hit at the time. Does Green Day credit her or do they just shamelessly steal that tune? Because its pretty egregious.

Pink got the riff from an old Deep Purple song. Everyone pulls from everyone else.

Also, there are a few songs that remind me a lot to Weezer.

So I’m not the only one who thought it sounds like weezer, which is a better direction than their past 5 albums.
The thing is I enjoyed the album this morning but I think that if I listen to it again then it won’t be as good as I thought it was on the first listen. So I’ll wait a little bit before I revisit it.

I'm on that same page. At some moments I was like "hell yesss", but on a first impression feels not very consistent, but I need more spins.

I agree. I do believe it deserves more spins, but not in the immediate future. 15 songs are also too many songs imo.

One thing I liked though is the fact that some songs are so far retaining a Green Day hook. They're songs you can hum to and that's always a good thing. It's a 6/10 album to me I think.

Yep. I used to love looooooong records, but nowadays 15 feels too long. Blink has been on the verge for me with OMT. But, for example, new AK3 is just perfect in lenght.

Solid record overall I really enjoyed it. Will see how it stands the test of time but at least I feel like this one sounds like they put effort on it unlike the trilogy and father of all. Revolution radio also was a record they tried but because they decided to produce it themselves it sounded pretty bad at times.

This one has a nice balance. The only songs I didn't particularly care about were 1981 and Saviors.

I'm so happy both Green Day and blink managed to produce really good music finally. I love both those bands so much.

I kind of like the vintage style they have going with these singles. It's not that hardcore like Insomniac, but it sounds like Dookie with the melodies of FOAMF, maybe also with the Ramones as an inspiration. Of course, this is their catchier, more repetitive material. I'm more excited for the album as a whole so I can stop swallowing repetitive material and begin looking deeply into their more artistic songs. (After all, that is how I listen to albums- the ones that aren't nearly as repetitive catch my eye.)

Corvette Summer has big dad rock vibes and I kind of dig it. The verses in 1981 also really remind me of Nimrod.

Favourite songs: 1981 (catchiest Green Day song since 2004?), Bobby Soxx, Strange Days, Look Ma No Brains. The melody of Suzie Chapstick reminds me of something and I can’t pinpoint it, but it's a good song.

I know what you mean. It reminded me of this song by White Reaper. I had to scroll through months of YouTube history to find it since I couldn't remember the band's name ?

What the actual fuck? It’s 2024 and I enjoyed a Green Day album??? I think it was cohesive enough to do the job. It’s no Dookie, Nimrod or American Idiot but so far I’m pleasantly surprised. Each listen Saviors gets a little better, with at least half of the songs so far being jammers.

I’m no musician, but my favorite song is Fancy Sauce. It’s my new jam.

Yes! I finally figured out that it’s a bit of this song and a bit of Dilemma by Nelly lol  it’s literally the exact same melody lol
