Rickay Posted January 22, 2024 Posted January 22, 2024 The run from Look Ma to Adeline is top tier. Album slaps! Very surprised, I’d go as far to say I’ve hated everything they’ve done since 21CB and that was just okay. oh also, the first song is a skip for me. I can’t stand listening to this band sing about America / the American Dream or whatever anymore lol. 2 1 Quote
Ghost Posted January 22, 2024 Posted January 22, 2024 Despite the fact that The American Dream Is Killing Me is basically Know Your Enemy with a fresh washed face, the rest of the album is pretty decent and it gets better wih a few spins. It's reminding me a lot to the trilogy, specially Uno. Also, I'm loving some specific tunes as Bobby Sox. I love little details like the cowbell in Covette Summer, I just cracked when noticed it. Slow songs as Suzie Chapstick say absolutely nothing to me, though. My veredict, by now, is: it could have been an absolute disaster, so having this record with a few decent songs is a nice surprise. Forthis reason, and in my opinion, a shorter tracklist priorizing the fastest songs could have done wonders. But that's just me. For me, unfortunately, I don't see having much staying power. And moreover, shomehow, I started to dislike Billie Joe's voice when he started to use standard tuning. I know he's singing better than in the past, but I dont know. Doesn't convince me for whatever reason. I still love this band for all the records I love and the memories attached to them. Ole' Green Day is pure gold. 1 Quote
raw_sounds Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 I totally agree with this review: the production is really great, but the songs not that much (few exceptions), it just makes me want to listen to their good ol tracks from Dookie till A. Idiot. It would've help to speed the songs a bit. Their best effort since 21CB though, that's good. 1 Quote
thongrider Posted January 28, 2024 Posted January 28, 2024 Album is fine. Like three great songs, some awful, mostly meh. OMT is better. Dilemma is not Dilemma by Nelly and Kelly. That Suzie song is, though. Best song is 1981. 1 1 Quote
Thibaut182 Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 The three music videos of Dookie now have the 4K treatment! Also the Longview music video is now uncensored as well 1 2 Quote

I do enjoy Dillema, 1981, and Bobby Sox. But those are the only ones I really go back to at this point. 1 Quote

Something about old Green Day just screams those coming age days and high school and 2000s. Getting super tripped up nostalgia watching these 1 2 Quote
Elisa Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 I've had Dookie on repeat at the end of the summer when all the demos came out and then Warning, for quite some time after that, and it was a real nostalgia moment for me. I no longer listen to Green Day regularly, but Warning in particular fit the autumn sentiment so well. 1 1 Quote

That song is a masterpiece. I fucking love it. About the new record, I'm liking it more now. It's a grower for me, no doubts. Their best since AI. 2 1 Quote
Jan Mortensen Posted February 16, 2024 Posted February 16, 2024 I feel like I’m the only one who knows what International Superhits was? I swear it was the best compilation at the time for a long time. My first Green Day CD actually. I then ended up having to get American Idiot at a Barnes & Noble bookstore because it was sold out everywhere else. Talk about nostalgia. 2 1 Quote

The International Supervideos! compilation is what made me a massive and huge Green Day fan for sure I used to watch that compilation over and over, all the time when I was younger!! 3 1 Quote

Thibaut182 Posted February 16, 2024 Posted February 16, 2024 Found this today on Youtube DId anyone know about this ?!?! Here's a cool fun fact about the back cover of Dookie at 2:10 that I just learned today! One of the kids on the back cover (with the blonde hair) is actually Kristopher Roe from The Ataris at a show at the old Roseland Concert Hall in NYC (October 1993) 2 Quote
Monkey Chips Posted February 17, 2024 Posted February 17, 2024 I'm finally getting around to listening to this new album so I'm just going to do a track by track write up on my first listen/impression of the album. The American Dream Is Killing Me - I already made my point on this track early on the thread (was tempted to skip it, but figured I'd listened to it anyway for the full album experience) Look Ma, No Brains! - I still enjoy this track. Bobby Sox - Oh wow, this one gives me Weezer vibes... Really enjoy this as well. Wish we got more Green Day like this and less like TADIKM stuff that's a decaying horse still being beaten (actually more like a puddle of mush being beaten at this point) One Eyed Bastard - I forget if I wrote about this track earlier, but I also enjoyed this one. Dilemma - I feel like I heard this song before from them, but still enjoyable. 1981 - I was expecting to make a joke about prefering the song 1985 (by SR-71 and later covered by Bowling For Soup), but wow this song is great... Really love the punk energy that they put in this song. Goodnight Adeline - Another good track, that sounds like a mix of Weezer and old Green Day. Really enjoy this as well, it scratches the occasional itch I'd have for alternative rock bands like Stroke 9 and their ilk. Coma City - Another fun song, really loving the energy in this one as well. Ahhhh I love the occasional punky guitar riff in this as well... Corvette Summer - Another great song... Honestly if they leaned into songs like this as well (and less of the old tired tropes) I'd see myself being a fan of this band again (though I'd have to skip the stuff from the triology to the album before this one though) Suzie Chapstick - The song was alright... Strange Days Are Here to Stay - I like the melody. Living in the '20s - Another political song, but also enjoy the melody in this one. Father to a Son - Like SC. this is a slow song so not really into it... Though the message behind it is cool. I much prefer "Everything to Me" by Teenage BottleRocket when it comes to songs from parents to their kids. This just feels too grandios and less honest/open or even personal like the TBR song I mentioned. Saviors - Another song attempting to be grandios, but an alright tune. Fancy Sauce - Another just alright song... Was waiting for the song to pick up in the beginning, it picked up steam, but then slowed down again so I realized it's another one of those grandios song (or closing track in this song's case) So yeah, other than a few skips, this was an enjoyable listen with a few surprises. 2 Quote

Ghent Posted March 29, 2024 Posted March 29, 2024 This new album is better than anything they've released since American Idiot (which I don't even like, but respect it for what it is) I enjoy! 2 Quote
radioactive tomdog Posted April 2, 2024 Posted April 2, 2024 I'm on the fence about seeing them play american idiot and dookie this summer. the last time i saw green day was on the original american idiot tour and it's such a great memory for me. i feel like if i relived it, it wouldn't have the same impact at all and would feel so phoned in. not to mention they'll alter every political reference on the album to be about trump and that's just beating a dead horse. 1 1 Quote
