Man Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 I gave a second listen on my headphones, it didn’t sound as great initially on my 5.1. I like it more. The outro with Tom’s voice is officially indistinguishable to me with how he sounded in ‘01-‘03, that’s crazy. I suppose it’s because he’s drawing out at the words like he used to. Personally, I wish Mark had extended vocals on the bridge. Maybe even some ‘spoken words’ by him in the outro. 1 Quote
Coightstradamus Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 Chorus is stuck in my head like crazy though. 1 Quote
Jan Mortensen Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 I'm surprised/not-surprised that people don't take to the Chorus. It seems intentionally obvious and repetitive to me, like in a creative choice, not cop out. To me Dance With Me, EDGING, sound way, way more repetitive, in a more grating way. Biggest gripe with Edging. That's just me though. I clearly have odd ball tastes here to the norm. It seems to gel perfectly with the song for me. From complex and more intelligent Mark lyrics, to a pure passion/emotion Tom chorus is just great to me. Quote

The OLES are repetitive, but also catchy af. Quote

I guess I always liked those raw emotion choruses though like Distraction, Violence, even Lost Without You Just fun to drive around and chant to I'm taking this blink song over some of Untitled and almost all of Neighborhoods right now. It's perfect man, outside the outro maybe, but it's just an outro. Quote

yodda Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 The melodies and production choices on this one resemble something close to TOYPAJ - a little bit like Please Take Me Home or Time TO Break Up. Quote

The chorus seems like a release after some fucking heavy, heavy verses from Mark. Works really well. 1 1 Quote
Man Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 3RD listen and continues to grow and grow. I hope they have an alternate acoustic version somewhere. Quote
Resident Zoomer Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 Don’t get me wrong, I don’t wish any ill-will on our boy or anyone else in the band, but Mark’s best work has always been in response to tragedy. Those verses were everything I’ve been wanting from him for years now. The signature +44 sound with Tom on guitar is *chef’s kiss* The chorus is fine. It’s repetitive but not as annoying as others. I appreciate it more after Jan pointed out the contrast between Mark and Tom’s parts. However, I do wish the bridge was extended. I felt like it ended awkwardly abrupt. Anyways, shoutout to Mark for kicking ass on this one. I was skeptical if he was gonna write about his battle. Seems like an obvious choice, but didn’t know if he just wanted to move on from it completely and only address it briefly, if at all. Didn’t someone mention that Bad News was a solo Mark song? Quote

Nosferatu Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 This is a fucking great song. It has the +44 and Happy Days vibe but unlike Happy Days the chorus just sounds better even though it's repeating lyrics Quote
Bucko Posted October 19, 2023 Author Posted October 19, 2023 I really like this song I love the rawness of it. Love Mark Quote
Jan Mortensen Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 Still one of the top tier songs, probably 3rd for me. Quote
Monkey Chips Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 I feel bad for this song, it got overshadowed by the leak... Still a good song, I like the drums and I enjoyed it on first listen, unlike Fell In Love when it came to songs they gave snippets for. 2 Quote
Coightstradamus Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 This song grew on me so quick it’s insane. 1 Quote
fran.182 Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 The lyrics are the kind I always hope from Mark after he wrote WYHSB. One can actually find some stuff like this even on California, though I must agree he has been spotty. The repetitiveness of the chorus does feel earned after how expressive the verses were, but I agree adding just one different cool line would make it even better. My other minor quibble is I'm not sure if that second of silence at the end of the bridge was the best choice. 2 Quote

Disagree on changing chorus, agree on silence, could have just jumped right back in. i did not expect them to have good lyrics on this album after the early releases. Quote
Elisa Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 This is the only song I'm not entirely sure about. I love the verses and Mark gave us some of his best lyrics, but the song stopping before the chorus, after the chorus and at the end of the bridge is a weird choice. It also feels like the chorus and the verses are from two different songs (?) - I don't know, I wish the chorus was different, but I'm sure it will grow on me. We have a lot to digest right now.
