This is more just a vicious cycle.  It’s no different than the b movie arguments, fighting the gravity, or MGK homaging vs copying.  I’m not sure what level of ‘question if these people should even be allowed to operate vehicles’ that puts some of you on,  but it’s not a matter of me trying to be smarter, it’s simple tone recognizing.  Hurt has purpose on the album.  It’s not meant to blow you away either, hence falling right before Turpentine, which is meant to blow you away.  Not every song needs to.  Blast to the past Tom, leaving it short and sweet. Mark joining in to cherry on top the new movement in their lives.  It’s not meant to be a “40 second clip AvA old demo song” like some of you are trying to pin it as just to cope with whatever it is Hurt triggers in you with its vulnerable lyrics.

Im not saying I’m smarter than anybody, but scientific evidence is on my side about those who can or cannot recognize B movies or not..

You are heavily presuming a level of forethought and artistic approach from blink that is not remotely evident across this album process or basically all of their career.

It is a bad song on an already bloated record. Turpentine would have just as much impact at any point on the record.

Wow.  You just made me like the song even more than I thought I already did.  For one of the first times in their career, they are digging deep and being heavily introspective to curate one of the best album interludes ever curated.  They're talking about so much here.

Dare I say Hurt is a part of Turpentine with the way it's formatted? Bit of a secret connection ordeal.  Makes more sense for the handclaps to be a bridge from Hurt to Turpentine than as an intro.

“The song was inspired by a friend whose marriage was kind of falling apart. It touched me so deeply that I was up one night crying for him - I felt so hurt.
That night after I sang it, I remember sitting in this studio at 2 a.m., I was at my house, my family was asleep, and I was listening to this thing and about half way through the song are these tears in my eyes and I felt like there was something magical happening.
That happens every once in a while when I’m a part of something artistically where I get kind of overwhelmed emotionally and feel like I’m really onto something that’s important. Not that I think it’s great or better than anything else, or that I think it’s going to be something giant or big, it’s because I feel it touches on something important to me and it grabbed a hold of—like a nerve—and is just gripping it and I could feel it and it’s like electric waves through your body.

Sounds like "asking for a friend" the song. Should've made it longer!

That was on The Adventure, but as you can see, it resonates for his future hits like Hurt as well the second paragraph.
