Weird! For year and years I’ve not once heard or seen anybody refer to Descendents as New Wave until thong wants to play contrarian. Funny how that works out, lol.

Is this your way of saying you never listened to the Descendents, or new wave?

they didn't talk it up a lot in the 90s, but they mentioned it a lot during the 03-04 era, especially mark's well-documented love of the cure (which far predates the band). travis outright says "new wave bands like missing persons" in the untitled CD booklet. you hear it a lot in the angels & airwaves stuff which is frighteningly indebted to U2.

Yea I have a feeling they didn’t listen to any of that shit until their later years (outside of Mark listening to the Cure)

New wave sucks. But not as much as Synth-pop sucks, which is what Blink Wave is

no it's super obvious tom didn't for sure, for all he would talk up the joshua tree and shit. tom was straight punk rock and travis says that in his book. it's also mentioned in the article i linked to before. travis and mark were way more open to different styles

Synth pop is great. Come on OMD? But I agree blink wave is more synth pop(synth wave) than new wave. New wave is lovely too. Descendents and the Police? What's not to like!

I’m still waiting for you to explain when Matt’s darkness seeped in the through the windows to blink.

I suppose you ignored that question intentionally.

Around the time they decided to make a stanky song in 6/8 and call it 6/8.

Let’s not talk about a song literally called Darkside and BlAcK RaIn (my pick for worst blink song all time - yes over Blame it)

It's never too late to give Lynyrd Skynyrd a rest and listen to some good ol new wave. Start with Devo. Or the Police! Nerds say they are technical and shit!

lol yes because Darkside is such a dark song! You’re really going to try and argue that is a dark song because it has the word dark in the title?

6/8 isn’t either and if you think Black Rain is dark I bet you call A Day to Remember death metal

either way these are bunch of b-sides (yes I know dark side was an unsuccessful single)…literally like 2% of their output here with Skibabidi

What new wave influences? lol when did they ever talk about new wave bands?

They've talked a ton about The Cure, especially Mark, Tom has mentioned loving Joy Division and New Order and Depeche Mode when he was growing up, I don't know what's so far fetched about it haha.

I personally believe that Tom discovered Joy Division, New Order etc. in his late 20s (post 2001) because I remember Travis saying that Tom didn't know much outside the punk rock genre and it was during the BCR era that he was slowly getting into post-punk, new wave etc. — then if you listen to Tom now on the interviews and podcasts he does, he'll tell you that he's been loving that kind of music since he was a teenager because it sounds better this way (lol), but it really doesn't matter when he started to get into it, Blink Wave is absolutely a nod to all the new wave/post punk music they like and listen to.

I think it makes sense he was into mainstream 80s pop before he got into punk, but maybe not super alternative music, but i guess there's an overlap. Especially if ge was watching John Hughes movies and such.

Haha yeah definitely possible, you never know! I'm trying to remember the bands he shouted out in Urethra Chronicles 1 when he was just rattling names off the top of his head. NOFX, Jimmy Eat World, A Tribe Called Quest...

I don't know if he mentioned any new wave but yeah, regardless of whether it was an influence in his teens and early 20s, it's clearly an influence now and I think the band sounds great in that style. In my opinion it feels like the most "natural" evolution of what they were so good at in the pure pop punk days.
