One more time deluxe thread

Just finished my first listen. Absolutely blown away. All bangers! At the moment I’m saying Take Me In is the weakest (but still enjoyed) with Can’t Go Back and Every Other Weekend being my favourites. Might post more opinions tomorrow but just wanted to quickly say how blown away I am. Two years after Tom coming back, I’m still in disbelief about the whole thing, they’re fucking smashing it at the moment, so happy.

Take me in is good, not a fan of the bridge but enjoyed the rest.

cant go back is fantastic, love it. Don’t think it needs to go somewhere, love it the way it is.

I am shocked how great Can't Go Back came out.  I was fearing they would ruin the vibe of it once they put the track down in the studio and produced it.  I'm glad it still has the chill feel that it did live.

Everyone Everywhere feels like a jam session that made it to a recording session. I'm not the biggest fan, but I like the final chorus where everything comes together.

Every Other Weekend feels like a straightforward pop-punk song. Not a bad thing!

Just listened to everyone everywhere and im blown away, sounds like it could be on untitled, so far this ep doesn't sound like stuff not good enough to be on the album but them having fun and experimenting.

I think it's an interesting and pretty cool song so I don't mean to rain on any parades, but (and I actually mean this as some kind of compliment) it would be better as a Coldplay song or something. It's not as off the Blink map as IRWIHY, but the melodies/style of singing sound like a song written for a whole different band with a whole different set of skills haha

Most Coldplay songs would be better as blink songs.

Does anyone know if they wrote thay recently or was it one of the tracks that didn’t make OMT. Pretty sure I seen that a couple are newly written and weren’t from the original OMT sessions

When I saw them in Orlando, they introduced Can't Go Back as a brand new song that they just finished writing and the record execs hadn't even heard it yet.  That one for sure is brand new and recently written.

One Night Stand, No Fun, Take Me In, and Every Other Weekend were all seen in various whiteboards/blurry tracklist/computer pics from the OMT sessions, so at least those 4 are from back then.

If You Never Left is brilliant... and is a typical classic Blink song. I wish they'd write more catchy shit like this. Most of the One More Time songs are bland, and I feel they're trying to write casual stuff for today's audience.

When Blink sticks to their source material, they can write bangers. Don't get me wrong, I like a few songs on the One More Time album, but I also feel that most of it isn't very good.

i’m pretty pleasantly surprised — this is a more ambitious and creative set than i anticipated. they’re a definite step above the last time they had a double disc set of castoffs (cali DLX). many of these songs might have even worked better on another album or on OMT proper! some push the band forward in great ways and others are pretty throwback-y, but it all comes together for a well-rounded listen. there’s a lot of great riffs — from no fun to everyone everywhere — across this set that make solid entries into the increasingly large blink canon.

every other weekend is definitely the stand out for me. i’ve always loved when blink embraces the cure influence, and love the sonic nods to just like heaven and lyrical tips to friday i’m in love. why was this not saved for a single, or the next album? it’s an instant classic blink track. can’t go back is dead center where i feel like the band should be, a natural progression from songs like after midnight, in that it tastefully applies tom’s U2/edge-style guitar work but feels like the three in the room. you can tell why they wanted to play it on this last tour, it’s a pretty special song. and everyone everywhere is a pleasant surprise: it has a really cool and discordant central riff and the bridge DEFINITELY delivers on the weird, considering i’m always asking for the band to push the boundaries! and as it was last year and always shall be, cut me off fuckin rips… full of energy and catchy as all hell.

many songs are definitely formulaic in ways i don’t love but they’re all pretty enjoyable especially as b-sides. if you never left is a true banger, even though it cycles through the classic blink chord progression for the umpteenth time… why mess with a good thing i guess? aside from the goofy-ass cumstain lyric in all in my head, the guitar work shines, and the admirably anthemic take me in just soars across the speakers. but it’s cut from the same sonic cloth as childhood in a weird way... to agree with @Champ182, it feels like a song written for a different band and serviced to blink. i’d like to see the songwriter breakout tomorrow on the official credits. if that’s truly what the boys have written, then i’ll have to hand it to them — doesn’t sound like them, but i’ll take it! as for the others, i could live without them. no fun has got some intriguing subject matter but largely falls pretty flat… though i’m a sucker for that pipe organ intro! see you remains a plodding frankenstein of a song; it and one night stand feel the most like true “cutting room” floor items — neither do much for me.

i will say this album has a lot of great vocals from tom — hearing him harmonize in his high register on if you never left is truly a trip, and the chorus of take me in is one of his best vocal performances! and his outro on can’t go back blasted me back to the 00s… he hasn’t sounded this good in decades, and he should be commended for his effort, both here and across this whole wonderful era. drums are tasteful and algebraic across the album in ways we’ve come to expect; on cut me off in particular the drums have an interesting mix between electronic and live (plus the memorable cowbell). but sorry in advance: the brickwalled up-to-11 production across the proverbial mixing board (most prevalent on everyone everywhere) does the music no favors — what a sonic mess! oh well.

anyway, i really liked it. go blink! :)

If You Never Left might be my favorite right now. The final chorus with the drums going twice as fast on the bass really makes it all worthwhile. I do wish the chimes at the end were used more. It's such a sweet sounding melody.

Also Tom has little fills on guitar that I wished were louder. They're so buried in the mix and would add so much if they could be heard better.

Yup, Tom belting that chorus and the guitar drop at the end do things for me.  Something about Tom yelling “and everything sucks!” is too good.

I can do without the rich girl parties thing though (felt like this came up a few times now Tom likes singing about high school girlfriend parties a bit too much lately), better than other shit they’ve been on though.

Something about roommate is mad she can’t get laid?  Wtf Tom lol.
