Back then you criticised the shit out of the band for writing songs about breakups, being young etc cause they’re older now and should write about that. Prove it. Quote

I agree with everything you said, the songs have all gotten better with each listen. I love the elements they brought to the table overall, it feels very comfortable and I mean that as a compliment. I think Every Other Weekend, If You Never Left, and One Night Stand are probably the best "classic era" pop punk songs they've done since TOYPAJ. They don't sound forced, they don't sound gimmicky, they bring that melancholy new wave vibe, just solid, solid stuff. They are super catchy/poppy but that aspect of it feeling like they wanted to make it, not forced, etc is so appealing. It sounds like they also had a conversation in the studio to not just ‘end on chorus’ like they’ve done so routinely past few iterations, and have Travis ramping it up, new parts at the end are so refreshing. 1 Quote

So true, ever since Lifeforms I've noticed Tom's singing has a bit of a playfulness to it when it comes to certain songs which is very nice (I've always been a fan of Tom's voice, but now it's even better because it sounds like he's having fun singing again). Knapppers Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 Can we also take a moment to acknowledge that Can't Go Back lived up to, if not maybe even being better than we had expected? When you hear songs live or demos and love them, they almost never live up to the hype. Can't Go Back blew it out of the water though. 2 1 Quote
blink182.net - Jan Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 Man the fact the 5 I’m loving hold up well right next to my favorites off OMT when mixing them in is a really good sign. Genuinely surprised. Quote
blink182.net - Jan Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 Cut Me Off and See You just got even worse though, what a bunch of clunkers wish those got deleted off the Part 2 version Quote

vic vinegar Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 So glad I was too busy to check out the leaks. First time going in blind since Neighborhoods (excluding the 2 pre-releases). My first impressions are it’s pretty great and I can’t pick a favorite quite yet. 2 Quote

I never said you can’t write songs about past situations as if you were back there or ask yourself certain things nowadays. But I can find it odd, right? You know... today. You left my bed but you really never leave my head. I think I like today. See ya, guys. Log back out. 1 Quote

Yeah, I was afraid that in the studio it would lose the live atmosphere, as happened to GOTD and After Midnight: very promising during the first dates of the Honda Civic Tour, but without transposing the same vibe on the studio record. In this regard, unlike the first reunion, today it's a totally different era for blink: at the time those two songs - which I personally love - didn't have much impact on the crowd when they played them live before releasing them... while last year in Bologna the whole arena was blown up for Dance With Me and More Than You Know, released just the day before. WPGBlink Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 The back half of Every Other Weekend is definitely a peak moment of the OMT era of blink for me. The Cure vibes with the instrumentation, Mark's vocals flying in and hitting the bullseye, and then finishing it off with the "every time I watch you gooooo" from both Tom/Mark. Just beautiful. 4 1 Quote
Ghost Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 Firstly, when they announced 'OMT... Part 2' I though "Jesus, just release them as a new EP". Later, when I realized the 8 songs + the 2 other ones released just after the official OMT release were basically a whole new record, I though: "Jesus f'ing Christ, why in the hell they didn't held those songs to release a new 10 songs album"? But I get it. They pretty much come from the same period of writing and recording, so the overall mood is pretty similar, although there's a noticeable change in feel in the new ones, like some of you have said in this thread. They sound mellower, or darker, so to say. I don't know. They feel slightly different. So it makes sense to release them under the same umbrella, I guess, but also as an expansion of the original tracklist. Anyways, this new songs are pointing to a different musical landscape. They are blending really well all their influences and side project visions, and the result is fantastic. I'm not expecting blink doing anything too experimental, but I do expect them to explore that path they have showed us in songs like Can't Go Back (qhich, in the end, connects directly to the Untitled era feeling). Also, I agree Take Me In sounds like Childhood Part 2, or like what Childhood wanted to be, but I preffer Childhood over Take Me in, I guess. My only complain is the production on Chilhood, which has been talked enough. 3 Quote
