boxelder Posted September 7 Share Posted September 7 what songs would you add from the dlx? which would you delete from the original? and why? here's my improved OMT for my tastes. anthem pt 3 dance with me every other weekend terrified can't go back more than you know if you never left YDKWYG bad news blink wave cut me off turpentine OMT other side childhood i tried to be conservative because honestly OMT is a solid album with good sequencing, but there's just a few songs -- fell in love, WWWY, turn this off, etc -- that miss the mark. in WWWY's case, i feel like if you never left better captures that old-school throwback sound, and in terms of cure pastiches, every other weekend is vastly superior to fell in love. i've never really loved edging, and the rest of the bonus tracks are too spotty to be interspersed with the OG track listing. still, i really like this version of the album! and it keeps it a tight 45 minutes, on par with the original. you might could even trim other side or cut me off from this list too to have a tighter record. Childhood Despite including 17 songs, it wouldn't be overly long since about half of the tracks clock in under the 3-minute mark. The original OMT was already quite sprawling and about showcasing the different sounds across blink's career with one or two curveballs (e.g. "Childhood" psychedelic feel and the chiptune outro)... That said, I simply chose the songs I consider stronger with a sequencing I believe would work. Getting all this stuff was amazing, but next time I hope they take a different approach: a more focused record that feels less like a collection of songs and leans less on throwbacks (blink has already mastered pop punk). Even if it's just 10 tracks total, either: 1. Go full new wave with more prominent synths - I think Paramore's After Laughter is a great example of a band from their scene doing it so well. Add some somber post-punk stuff like "All Of This" and expand on "Childhood" maybe... or 2. I think the sequencing of the first 7 tracks is virtually perfect, so it’ll be difficult to move things around without breaking the flow. The back half of the album doesn’t feel quite as thought out, so I’ll probably make more changes there to squeeze in some part 2 tracks. Childhood I know some might view this as too long, but I wanted to keep it at the same song count... plus with what some might view as filler others would be bummed to see missing. Though I did remove/replace songs I wasn't that fond of and the joke/interludes felt unnecessary to include so I replaced them with full songs. The frustrating thing is I want to include "Every Other Weekend" as well, but I already feel bad having the set be 17 full songs so one more would feel like it was pushing it.
