I mean I always heard their songs on radio and shit, just never had an album. Which is funny because going through Nevermind and In Utero I basically have heard all of the songs at one point or another

? they had multiple hit songs for years before Minority. That was their lowest point in terms of sales/relevance up until then. 

Dookie also hit perfectly when alt-rock was probably peaking (thank you Nirvana), the scam CD clubs were giving out albums for literal pennies, they had a ballad (Nirvana never really did), they won a grammy, magazine covers, played Woodstock 94,  and generally made some good albums throughout the 90s. they were a dynamo. 

I guess I get it when blink 182 rolls around and they do kind of water it down and made punk rock really dumb & safe (but still en vogue with the American Pie movement of the time). it was a threat as they were the younger model and had two frontmen who were entertaining. MTV also seemed to heavily favor them as Green Day still weren't willing to be the proverbial "jackass" like blink was. however, even blink's biggest album was like half of the sales of dookie. insane to think about.

In high school I was trying to find the most obscure and edge-lord punk/metal to listen to.  Blink barely made the cut for a couple of years lol.

depends on which era of highschool.  Early on typical punk stuff (rancid, nofx)...later on death metal/grind and crust punk lmao.  Nausea, Crass, Discharge, Napalm Death, Suffocation.

crust punk is the worst shit ever and I am embarrassed.  I still like metal though.

That actually made me remember. There is a picture out there of Tom with liberty spikes. I can’t find it. I think it was a promo pic in the TOYPAJ era and he was obviously messing around. Be cool if anyone could find it!

I can’t see Tom’s arm so it’s hard to say for sure. But it’s either end of enema era or beginning of TOYPAJ per my sources (eyeballs)

It probably is enema because that’s when they did a lot of cheesy photo shoots that they supposedly didn’t like…before they started wearing all black trying to look tuff for TOYPAJ 😅
