I wish I was Tombot enough to blindly love OMT 😂 It actually blows my mind these 2/3 can't accept some-many people just didn't like California-Nine. And has nothing to do with resisting change because of Tom. Many of us, if not all, went into it wanting the Skiba experience to give us new life. And it really just did not click. I don't get why that causes such a ruckus, replacing a lead singer is hard to make work. Especially in a tight knit trio like Blink. Resorting to everyone being worshipping Tombots in our 30s now is ridiculous.. 3 1 Quote
Coightstradamus Posted July 12, 2025 Posted July 12, 2025 I don’t care that people don’t like the music. Weird attempt at deflection. i just call out the hypocrisy surrounding the criticisms of that era regarding outside songwriters, songs not being written by all three of the members not being “blink” etc suddenly not mattering now that Tom is back. It’s obviously not everyone but there were people who went on about it for years that suddenly went quiet and didn’t seem to care now that their lord and saviour was back. 3 Quote
thongrider Posted July 13, 2025 Posted July 13, 2025 If anything it's even more cringe they use outside writers now that Tom is back. 2 Quote

I’m sure this song reflects how Blink would have sounded if Tom hadn’t come back. I mean, just swap John’s voice with Matt’s, and there you go – you have a new Blink song. It sounds so much like California... All I can say is: THANK GOD Tom came back. damn this reveals who wrote this song below back then it was our nice feldy all along i like when john drops the ska part and do more rockish music its realy good what he does Quote
twelve Posted July 13, 2025 Posted July 13, 2025 I think Russell and company are overlooking quite a few details - and by ignoring the context in which certain discussions took place, and continuing to call people “Tombots,” it honestly feels more like something I’d associate with MAGA-style tactics. It’s kind of ironic. For many of us, blink was always Mark and Tom. In 2016, they chose to continue without Tom. Speaking for myself, whatever I felt about that decision at the time, I would’ve felt the same way if it had been Tom choosing to move forward without Mark. Back then, it also wasn’t common, or known to us, that someone like the lead singer of Fall Out Boy would step in and write a song for blink. But honestly, a lot of us are getting too old for this kind of debate… I think it’s only natural that when decisions are made collectively by all the original members - the people who’ve always defined what blink is - they carry a different weight, and a different level of acceptance. That doesn’t mean people are being hypocrites. It just means the context has changed. But let’s not pretend there wasn’t criticism about the last album, right? By the way, I enjoyed the burger - just like I enjoyed some California and Nine burgers. 1 Quote

It’s obviously not everyone but there were people who went on about it for years that suddenly went quiet and didn’t seem to care now that their lord and saviour was back. Who though? Because I haven’t seen anyone being unbothered about the outside writers aspect who previously cared about it before. I was pissed then, I’m pissed now. It’s still bullshit and most of OMT is cookie cutter wank with poor production. I prefer a lot of it to california but it’s still not actually good by any stretch of the imagination. I think Tom being back made hype huge so people overlooked issues because Tom had returned but over time OMT is not anyones faves blink record, no ones claiming the outside writers were a good move, mostly its been complaints over Travis’s shitty production style. 2 Quote
Jan Mortensen Posted July 13, 2025 Posted July 13, 2025 OMT + pt 2 =California + Deluxe but with Tom & Travis’ shitty production and generic filler instead of Feldmann’s shitty production and generic filler. +3-5 songs they actually cared to write about themselves + Terrified from Boxcar racer days. And some really good live moments (Coachella). is that what you want to hear? Pretty sure that’s been the basis from everyone on here. So as you can imagine, the latter is a lot better. But still far removed from their prime. Just getting 3-5 good quality songs is enough to at least take a breath of fresh air but still not what anyone is truly craving. We want all Anthem pt 3s or Turpentine type songs. Or Otherside and Bad News without Travis ruining it. Still leagues better than the horribly bland feeling California - Nine blink-lite featuring Skiba instead of Tom. How is this so hard to grasp? I don’t get it. Going the Maga route is unsurprising though. Quote

Def got issues but I still think it’s a great record. Listened to the whole pt1 and 2 just last week. Still loved all of it. 1 Quote

Coightstradamus Posted July 13, 2025 Posted July 13, 2025 Here’s another. One of the larger critics of the Feldmann/songwriter times. wont tag cause I don’t wanna drag someone into a discussion they probably can’t be fucked having. 2 1 Quote
Coightstradamus Posted July 13, 2025 Posted July 13, 2025 LOL this one is even funnier cause we know that song wasn’t written by mark and tom. It came from Travis and another bloke then got reworked. 3 Quote

Coightstradamus Posted July 13, 2025 Posted July 13, 2025 Anyway @Kayyou can read this thread if you care enough (I got bored after 2 pages) to see people’s tune change on songwriters very quickly and the goalposts move very quick and far. But yeah it’s very clear @Ghent and I aren’t just old men yelling at clouds. 1 Quote
