Ghent Posted July 19, 2025 Posted July 19, 2025 Yeah I love me some Boxelder. Nothing personal, but we gotta be real. You can’t spend years shitting on the Skiba era because songwriters were used and not apply that same energy once Tom came back. It makes you a tombot 2 Quote

It makes you a tombot I’m on mobile atm but if you search my posts, you’ll discover that I literally stayed the exact same regarding my stance on songwriters. In my initial OMT review I called it a major problem, and critiqued some of the lyrical choices across the album. Quite the opposite reaction than what is being described here. I think songs like take me in, one more time, and the rest really fucking blow for the most part… Anyone could be singing these songs, and I think it’s really ridiculous that they roped Tom in to this whole hit parade mentality. everyone seems triggered by the fact that I’m investing less energy into personally caring about the songwriter problem. Is that not natural after 10 years and three albums worth of this stuff? It’s also a reaction to the obvious reality that the band is never going to be the same as they were… So why even treated the same? The argument that boxelder is singing a new tune would have more weight if it wasn’t backed up by years of consistency… I’ve enjoyed plenty of Skiba era stuff and new Tom stuff in equal measure, while maintaining the perspective that it’s kind of lame theyve resorted to using outside help. 5 Quote
twelve Posted July 19, 2025 Posted July 19, 2025 Nothing has changed in their lives in 10 years. And their patience for certain things is exactly the same - good for them. Reducing texts that explain context to simply “you’re a Tombot” is either intellectual dishonesty or just ignorance. Also, Take Me In is a good song, regardless of who wrote it. 2 Quote
Ghent Posted July 19, 2025 Posted July 19, 2025 People should be more offended that they used songwriters with Tom in the band. At least with Skiba they had an excuse for needing some help and direction 2 1 Quote

No matter how you try to spin it, your conclusion is that: songwriters with Mark, Matt, and Travis = bad songwriters with Mark, Tom, and Travis= no problem! It’s not even a big deal and i don’t think any less of you for your opinion but at least own it lol That’s not what he said at all. You guys are weird. 1 Quote

It’s not the same, whether you obsessively want it to be or not..you guys are just still fixated on the California era hate. Sorry I guess? Sorry for hurting you. Maybe hop off the site if the opinions of music by others bother you so much. 1 Quote

It’s the same album with a different vocalist in Tom instead of Matt. That’s it, that’s the difference. 1 1 Quote

Jan Mortensen Posted July 19, 2025 Posted July 19, 2025 I’d love to keep trolling this but the truth is blink isn’t blink without Mark or Tom. It’d be the same unease and complaints eventually if Mark was replaced in 2016. They were put on this earth to balance eachother out. the songwriters and robotic production are lame and that’s why a handful of us don’t eat up OMT either, but: -added Tom guitar riffs -added real songs (like Otherside, Anthem 3, Turpentine, Terrified, etc) -added better chemistry (live show, band tour, big interview, etc) -better sound in general (Tom + Mark is a way better in every way, cookie cutter song or not). Makes a huge difference. The end. either way I’m just proud of myself for telling Ghent to hop off his own site. 1 Quote
Ghent Posted July 19, 2025 Posted July 19, 2025 I guarantee if Mark was the one replaced and not Tom, the tombots would have been 100% on board Cult energy 1 Quote

You ever see him perform the song OMT live? He doesn’t even play the right chords it’s clear he didn’t record that song on guitar. You should be able to tell since you claimed that song was the best song of the century when it came out. Quote
