  1. Lol.  That line is not subtle, it's the opposite of that.  It's the most obvious line ever.  He just is stating that the streetlights are old and the ice is cold.  Two facts we could assume.

I know you guys don't follow AVA that much on here, but they have talked about that song being about a young person overdosing.

"And slowly fades away, into a river or full of shame

But at least numb to the pain, can you see it?"

"You're so sad my valentine on your journey to the light".

    "And we are

    All that we are

Holding on until we fall apart".

    Kind of obvious tbh.

  2. "The ice is very cold, the street lights very old"

    Something like that. Horrible line.

I can see how that comes across as random, simplistic, shitty lyrics. Especially to Blink fans who are used to Tom's direct lyrics.

But, listening to the song, I'm pretty sure it's a subtle way of referring to someone who has overdosed and passed out on the street, and been lying there all night.

  3. Does anybody know what the point of the big huge black cube (the spaceship that crashed in the desert?) was?

    Spoiler:

I'm sure the ending is deliberately vague, but there are a few things that the cube could be, if you know what Tom is into.

Look up the "Black Knight Satellite".

It's a little known conspiracy theory that before Sputnik first went into space they spotted a satellite was already orbiting the earth, and no one knew where it came from.

Then there is a thing that Tom talked about a few years ago, about a machine that records every single event that happens on the planet.

Don't ask me why they dropped it in the desert during the Civil War... probably just a way to the two stories together.

  4. He is in the spaceship, then he is out in space attached to the iss by a rope, then next thing you know... he is on earth.

    What the?

Don't want to come across as a snob, but that statement made you look like you had the IQ of a daffodil.

I'm sure a lot of smart people will not find this movie to their taste, but if you don't understand why he was "on earth" again (he wasn't), you should either watch it again, or stick to popcorn films.

  5. Loved the movie.

You can't deny it is boring in the middle, but I think it works. The guy is alone for 7 years, they needed to get that boredom across.

I think the vague ending is amazing. Definitely some 2001 elements in there. And Tom's belief in that machine that records the "memories" of all mankind gets thrown into the mix.  :-)

    And Gunner Wright is good.

  6. The new blink album was alternating between 6 and 8 for the last 2 weeks on itunes. Now it's at 75 and AVA is up there? wat.

the itunes charts are lame. billboard>itunes.

The iTunes chart makes up a good chunk of the Billboard chart, especially for singles.

I think it's weird they are releasing digitally and physically over 2 weeks, makes a decent chart position much harder.

  7. Totally disagree with that. Plus 44 was Blink without Tom. Although not as good as Blink obviously, it certainly was not mediocre.

    Yes it was.

And the only people who liked +44 were from a small section of hardcore Blink fans. The fact they couldn't attract ANY fans outside that group (even with more exposure than a lot of smaller bands) should speak for itself.

  8. have you heard how many songs they use the same progression as dammit uses?

Lol, I was trolling in part.

But yes, the choruses of Secret Crowds, Feeling This, Always, Time To Break Up, the verses of Anthem Part 2 are all the exact same melody... And there are many more.

  9. It's clear Tom does a lot of recycling on his new album:

GOTDF has the same riff as Epic Holiday...

Natives has the M&M's, Young London guitar riff...

After Midnight has the same guitar riff as half of AVA's songs...

Snake Charmer has the Flight Of Apollo/The Machine guitar riff...

UAN has the All Systems Go guitar riff...

UAN has the Flight Of Apollo vocal melody...

Wishing Well has the Not Now guitar riff...

This Is Home has the exact same guitar riff as We Are Scientists.

    :-P

  10. they aren't popular because they aren't good. tom wears AVA clothes on tour and constantly promotes the hell out of them. if you're going to tell me that the 125,000 people who bought neighborhoods don't know about AVA and the existence of this album than i'm going to laugh.

By that logic (being known by the Blink fans but not selling loads), +44 were shit as well. And WDNTW still sold twice as much in the US as +44, even after leaking a month in advance.

Tons of bands aren't popular... Brand New, Say Anything, Manchester Orchestra...

This band is barely known outside of the Blink fan base (due to no radio play). And since they play music in a different genre from Blink, why would they be popular with those fans?

  11. so by all means, get at me when this album gets better reviews and charts higher than neighborhoods. (it won't.)

Why would it ever chart higher than Neighborhoods? They are on their own label and they are nowhere near as big as Blink. Just like +44 and Travis sold fuck all.

  12. I voted good.

And people are asking in a few threads what this album has that Neighborhoods doesn't...

    100 times better production.

Songs that have vocals in the bridges, and don't rely solely on Travis' drumming.

    Songs with varied structures.

    A fucking awesome guitar outro.

I say all that as someone who prefers Neighborhoods.

  13. I love the outro of 'all that we are'. If this is the last AvA album, which I expect it will be, it was a very high note to end it off on.

Also interesting that you said you think this will be their last album, most people I've found are of the opposite view, why do you say it'll be their last? Just interested, hearing someone with that view for once!

Tom has been talking the band down for the past 6 months. Sure he says this album is the best release yet, but he knows it is a small band, and that Blink fans have an irrational hatred of its existence (Google+ chat and recent Blink interviews confirm this). He even calls AVA a "company" and an 'art project" now.

If they do put out another album, I'm guessing it will be an instrumental movie soundtrack.

  14. I prefer The Adventure...

But Saturday Love is a great start to an album that is way more experimental (musically) than anything they have done before.

Sure, there are some recycled vocal melodies, but I like that you can't tell where any of the songs are going to end up.

WDNTW and I-Empire songs all had the same structure, and no real surprises.

This is what AVA should sound like, but maybe with a few less catchy (simple) melodies.

  15. You guys are on crack, this album feels way more 'complete' than pt. 1.

Tom for sure has some questionable lyrics, and there are some ideas that could have grew so much bigger.

I love the outro of 'all that we are'. If this is the last AvA album, which I expect it will be, it was a very high note to end it off on.

  16. Lmao at some of these comments.

It's like half of you have been waiting a whole year to come on here and say "I gave it a chance! This  is the end of AVA! Pleeease Tom! Blink is better!"

Oh, and good to hear a set of songs with vocals in the bridges. :-P

  17. Well your opinion on his opinion sucks, in my opinion. How can you be serious and say This is Home should be a single and neglect songs like Natives/Wishing Well/ Ghost On the Dance Floor(you keep putting down Toms vocals when he sounds 5 times worse on This Is Home)/ Even If She Falls. All the songs I listed have way more potential to be huge radio hits and also great music videos. Seriously This Is Home is probably the 3rd weakest song on the album ahead of Love is Dangerous and Fighting the Gravity. As a fanboy I can understand your love for the song but for the general radio audience This Is Home has zero chance of becoming a big hit. I have a ton of friends that love Blink and every one of them agrees that This Is Home is one of the weakest on the album.

After hearing the studio version, I can say GOTDF would perform decently as a single, not as good as I originally thought... Maybe Top 5 on Alt charts and make a little impact on a few other formats.

Wishing Well would be hit or miss.

Natives would get stuck on Alternative Radio, and barely scrape the Top 10.

I don't like the song, but This Is Home is by far the biggest potential single on the album after AM.

Not and expert, but have worked in radio, and A & R.
