  1. Hot 100 and Hot 100 Airplay are different charts though, aren't they? That being said, Minority wasnt on the hot 100, but I think it was bubbling under.
  2. Good Charlotte were punk as fuck!
  3. School isn't really needed to learn about pacifism though. I'm going to a pacifist group that is only for native English speakers. And I bought a book on pronunciation to blend in. And I talk all the time about how "ombing" other countries is wrong because the book said the "b" in bombing was silent, so I feel just like a native speaker. All from the school of hard knocks! The book also said a letter in "hard knocks" was silent, but I forget which one.
  4. On a Plain is my favorite. Love that one. In Bloom is pretty good too.
  5. I once wrote a paper on how cool censorship in music is. I wrote about Eminem and Barry McGuire, but Green Day is a prime example. Except for in their covers there is no swearing on their indie records because they weren't allowed to. Dookie was a lot edgier and probably sold more because of that edginess. If they put Fuck off and die on their record cover it would probably not sell as much. And Longview needed censoring as well. But that form of cool censorship really sells. I think the same goes for Jackass and South Park. That it being bleeped made it appealing to some people.
  6. It's a fist that is pacy! In Gilman Street they wrote "No Violence" on the walls but also threats to BJ for being a sellout, which is sorta ironic.
  7. I actually checked it. They only released singles in Europe and Japan, it seems. And focused on airplay in the US. I remember reading a book about punk in the UK in 1990 and I was shocked how popular they were there even before Kerplunk came out and that just skyrocketed with Dookie.
  8. Tbf it was probably the pacifists that gave him deaththreats he was referring to.
  9. But is it elevator music? One of my faves on that album.
  10. He seems very non violent to me. B He grew up in the Berkeley scene though. No violence was their first pillar. That being said he did attack someone back in the day.
  11. I think I just hate rock music lol.
  12. I think I dislike Kurt's voice and the production. I like the Beach production and In Utero, but I only like the songs on Nevermind. I'd definitely like Nevermind more if it sounded more like Bleach or In Utero.
  13. I will never understand Green Day's popularity in the US compared to Nirvana (I obviously like Green Day better). It seems like Nirvana was so much bigger. Nirvana had hit singles all over the world. But in the US Dookie almost sold twice as much as Nevermind. Is it about GD fans being middleclass and being able to afford the album? And more people pirating Nevermind? Whereas worldwide the two albums have sold almost equally as much. So Nirvana is much bigger worldwide than Dookie was. But Green Day didnt have a mainstream hit single before Minority in the US, but their singles were chartbusters in Europe. Whereas Nirvana had hit singles everywhere. Did GD not release singles in the US? American pop music is weird as hell. (Maybe this post is more suitable for the GD thread I dunno) Always baffles me.
  14. You shouldn't. That is a crime.
  15. His wife seems sketchy. Not that people should be judged by their spouse, but still.
  16. Billie Joe seems like the genuinly ok dude in that band. But who knows.
  17. I don't really think people think he is that impressive compared to drummers you mentioned. I think it's a mix between him being the OG drummer and him being kicked out in a shitty way. Are there people talking about how impressive he is? I mean I'm impressed because I can't do what he does, but not compared to Travis and Smelly.
  18. It's the underdog thing. Mark, Tom and Scott were three guys that weren't the most professional musicians and still made it. Getting Travis in feels like cheating in a way. And tbf I think Tre Cool was a better fit for Green Day than John. And I love some of the stuff Tre did in the 90s. It's not always the best drummers that become the biggest stars. The Beatles had the best drummer, but they kicked him out to replace him with a star. And that was probably a good choice!
  19. I'll always be more of a John Kiffmeyer/Scott Raynor kind of guy.
