seeing mark and tom together offstage still feels so fresh and warms my heart. so glad they got over the bullshit6 points

Don't get The Offspring hate. Up until American Idiot they were almost as big as Green Day, direct competitors for Pop Punk Kingdom. They just went downhill while GD and blink matured enough to put AI and Untitled album. Offspring just lived and still live thanks to their wonderfull run Smash to Americana. They belong in another family though, they're Rancid, NoFX, GD brothers while blink's are Sum 41, Mxpx and Alkaline Trío. Next family would be Simple Plan, Good Charlotte, Yellowcard, NFG.4 points

I thought they sounded great at Chile and Argentina. I like that they play to tracks cause it makes it sound fuller and the synth in Wendy Clear was awesome. I hope Dance With Me and Turpentine are staples in the set for years to come. Already craving another new album. I love this band.4 points

Not from kansas. Some of my friends were into the offspring while we were teens. I never got the appeal. They sounded to me like they would like to ride the mainstream wave, but still wanted to stay „tRUe PuNkErZ“ and somehow ended up being disappointing at both3 points

As soon as I heard him being referred to as “Noodles” at the show, I said to myself “I don’t have the energy to be a part of this following”.3 points

Mainstream pop punk/punk rock has always been Green Day, Offspring and blink. The weird thing about Offspring is that they’re not a beloved icon in the punk scene the way Rancid, NOFX or Bad Religion are and they were never fully adopted by the mainstream either like Green Day or blink. But I guess you can say they are one of the very few bands who really got to have their cake and eat it too. They got to be a huge mega-success and sold millions of records, but without the celebrity that comes with it (and they’re probably very happy about it)3 points

Smash was their breakthrough mainstream album. That shit was all over the radio.3 points

Someone should tell the discord users that they can doxx the guys as much as they want here.3 points

don’t get the offspring hate. i don’t really love them but nothing besides pretty fly for a white guy was that cringe to me. i love smash, and bits and pieces throughout the discography (want you bad, gone away, hammerhead, etc). i saw them live last summer and they were fine, nothing special but neither particularly cringe to me. i do find their origins in hardcore punk and the sheer age of the band intriguing (they’re from like the descendants era, but didn’t blow up till a decade into their career). also the fact that dexter holland can look like such a doofus but has contributed to important mRNA research is crazy to me too. not on my mount rushmore either, but nowhere near worth the hate.3 points

Now take the above annoying sound and have it read this words melodically: Give it to me baby uh huh uh huh Give it to me baby uh huh uh huh Give it to me baby uh huh uh huh And all the girlies say I'm pretty fly for a white guy Uno, dos, tres, cuatro, cinco, cinco, seís You know it's kinda hard just to get along today Our subject isn't cool but he fakes it anyway He may not have a clue and he may not have style But everything he lacks well he makes up in denial So don't debate, a player straight You know he really doesn't get it anyway Gonna play the field, and keep it real For you no way, for you no way So if you don't rate, just overcompensate At least you'll know you can always go on Ricki Lake The world needs wannabes Hey, hey, do that brand new thing! Give it to me baby, uh huh, uh huh Give it to me baby, uh huh, uh huh Give it to me baby, uh huh, uh huh And all the girlies say I'm pretty fly for a white guy He needs some cool tunes, not just any will suffice But they didn't have Ice Cube so he bought Vanilla Ice Now cruising in his Pinto, he sees homies as he pass But if he looks twice, they're gonna kick his lily ass! So don't debate, a player straight You know he really doesn't get it anyway Gonna play the field, and keep it real For you no way, for you no way So if you don't rate, just overcompensate At least you'll know you can always go on Ricki Lake The world loves wannabes Hey, hey, do that brand new thing! Now he's getting a tattoo yeah, he's getting ink done He asked for a 13, but they drew a 31 Friends say he's trying too hard and he's not quite hip But in his own mind he's the, he's the dopest trip ???2 points

I don’t care what the naysayers think, Self Esteem is a top pop-punk song2 points

i will say i think it’s cool that smash did so well for an indie label like epitaph. it really put them on the map and established to the majors, along with sub pop, that there was truly a lane for artists that didn’t want to go the mainstream route. of course, offspring went anyway, but still. i will say that why don’t you get a job is one of the worst songs ever. just awful in every conceivable way.2 points

Same exact perspective here. I saw them in 2010 when they opened for 311, and the only reason I went was to see the Offspring. I thought they were pretty cool then. But at the time, I definitely considered Blink, Sum 41, Green Day to all be in one league and then The Offspring as being a tier below that (like Sublime, as you mentioned). I kept my perspective for years and didn’t think too much into it. But after seeing the Offspring crowd in 2023 and wondering how they somehow pulled like 20,000 people to a show they were headlining (and questioning how on earth Sum 41 and Simple Plan would open for them and not the other way around), I took notice that the crowd was an older bunch. It hit me that growing up, I wrongfully had compared The Offspring (when their prime was done) to bands like Sum 41 and Blink (when their prime was ongoing), and just assumed The Offspring must have been a lesser band. But turns out the primes didn’t overlap and that warped my perspective of them. It seems like they did some good work back in the day and moved the genre forward during their time and gained a large following of older people. Im led to believe Sum 41 and Simple Plan were just paying their respects to an older band that had a large following of older fans, rather than belittling themselves. In 2024 though, I still think The Offspring is pretty lame today.2 points

Not sure if discussed already but apparently Tom suffered a heat stroke at one of the shows recently, but seems to be doing better now. https://www.instagram.com/reel/C4vZvHerBqv/?igsh=bGN3bHJqczFoMHNr1 point

We should definitely do a b182online live stream/watch party of the SW Sequels and see how long before fights break out and then shrooms halfway through TLJ.1 point

They were brilliant when I saw them a few years back. Will never get the hate.1 point

I lump Offspring and Sum 41 into the same bunch. Both were great in their prime but held onto it so long that it just got so cringy and the music turned to complete garbage.1 point

The Offspring hate here is strange. I can get behind disliking their newer material, but albums like Smash are solid skate punk. I think one of their members (guitarist?) was their highschool janitor and joined the band which is an awesome origin story.1 point

oh my god this is so fucking true. Nickelback almost gets my respect for never wavering and just embracing the cringe of themselves. Fuck I hate the Offspring. I see that blonde-spiky haired douche in my nightmares, just yelling at me.1 point

Limp Bizkit is actually great, they get such a bad rap soley because of Fred Durst, rightly or wrongly. Wes Borland is such an underrated guitarist. The bass lines in some songs is so great, look at My Way for example.1 point

I am not surprised he called it a day, discord of toxic cunts. Hopefully they hate us enough not to venture here ?1 point

the last time tom was so into the shows was probably the late 90s, it's a very great thing to witness as fans because you can tell it's genuine (when it wasn't genuine it was so easy to spot)1 point

Clearly mark doesn’t think Tom can sing it by himself. It’s all over guys.1 point

Band gets back together. Performing amazing shows. Releases an amazing album. Breaks records with a single. Band chemistry is at an all time high. Tom has one average show. Clarke : “it’s all over”1 point
