That’s fair. I probably am making my own assumptions a little but that comes from seeing so many interviews with Tom where he does say what I’m saying and is pretty straight up about it. He definitely has said before “it’s still my band I can come back whenever I want” so when I hear “I’m still an owner of the band” my mind goes to that. I just feel after quitting the band twice Tom could just answer those questions a bit better. More humble maybe? I dunno.

All he needed to say was “yeah I’d be up for that but who knows what’s going to happen in the future” then it’d be similar to mark answer. He doesn’t need to mention that he’s recently spoken to Travis and mark about coming back. How often have you heard mark say that’s happened? When Tom says he still owns the band of course he’s just meaning his share but it’s so plainly obvious that what he is saying is that because of that he can come back whenever he wants, to borrow what you said “anyone with a working brain” can see that clearly.

When mark gets asked about Tom coming back he just “he’s busy doing his stuff, we’re busy doing ours but never say never” but then when Tom gets asked he’s always got to remind everyone how he still owns the band, he could come back whenever he wants, that he was just recently talking to mark and Travis about coming back etc etc. I just think it’s lame of him to constantly do that. Just be humble. Don’t always fish for that headline.

I know the magazine article you’re talking about and it was when deluxe released and it was about the song wildfire. 100% mark said it meant nothing. As for the first thought best thought thing that doesn’t mean they just came up with lyrics that meant nothing. It’s just go with the first thought you have instead of overthinking it for days and days until you hate it. It still has meaning.

@Jan's Plan “‘Bored To Death’ was the first song we wrote with John [Feldmann]. John and Mark [Hoppus] started working on it together. That’s kind of what the genesis of it was. Mark wrote the first verse, and John sent me in to sing. I was listening to Mark do his vocal, and I just started writing kind of an extension of what Mark was saying, what that meant to me. My perception of it was something that, it made perfect sense to me and the continuation of it in the second verse was some things that I had gone through, some things that I was going through. From going from a really, kind of, rough time in my life to going through this really amazing time in my life now. Not necessarily the amazing time, but the transition into it. From my point of view, it’s easier to say “I’m bored” or “I’m angry”. Anything is much easier to say than “I’m hurt”.” Maybe try www.fanfiction.net next time.

Source? I remember they said that about wildfire but that’s the only one I can think of where they openly said the lyrics were meaningless.
