If I’m in Guitar Center and see some hardo playing a thousand notes a second with no soul, I’m not going to give a shit. Tbh.

If some Berkeley trained musician of 35 years told me all about the patterns you can do with the Dorian mode, I’ll be bored shitless.

Give me a fun hooky riff that makes me feel a certain way, you’ve got my attention.

Everybody has their own definition of “best.” But when you’re dealing with music, that’s sort of the point. It’s supposed to be subjective and everybody has their own ways of determining what they think is “best.”

Yea and just automatically saying the dude you love who can only play power chords is the best guitarist is fucking stupid

If someone has a girlfriend or a husband that plays guitar, that person can be their favorite, and they can also think Tom Delonge is the best, but their girlfriend is their favorite.

Someone can also be into metal or jazz or blues rock growing up and be into a totally generic and boring guitarist in those genres growing up and just by nostalgia of playing along to that generic guitarist have that player as their favorite, and at the same acknowledge that Tom Delonge is the best one because of other things than technical skill.

One's favorite and the guitarist one finds the best can be two different guitarists without the latter being overly technical.

Respectfully, this is just a whole lot of mumbo jumbo. You guys aren’t talking about Tom objectively. But whatever, go ahead and say hes the best. There are far more people in the world who think he is NOT even close to the best.

Regarding writing catchy guitar riffs, I remember watching this video as a teenager and being blown away at how simple Tom made it.

Cool. Doesn’t make him the best at anything.

I think removing mainstream from the equation, and because to me what made blink great was the mixture of the catchy vocal melodies with the somewhat simple lyrics rather than the guitar riffs (I think they were added as extra Spice, but not my main reason for liking them), I would say the actual best guitarist would be inventive (but not necessarily technically skilled) guitarists who made the guitar the most important part in the songs, like Hank Marvin, Dick Dale or Django Reinhart or the Norwegian DR, Robert Normann. I dunno if any kind of guitarist like that is in mainstream music today.

But do those people matter?

Do you? What the hell makes you think your opinion holds more weight?

Realizing Layla is basically Clapton throwing everything at the wall to try and capture Dude Ranch guitar sound but Tom had more discipline to do it is maturity.

You are a clown dude. Tom can’t even play the easiest Guns N Roses riff but yet you claim he could play Clapton “if he wanted to.” 🤣🤣🤣 people like you are the reason people hate on Tom DeLonge

I think everyone's opinion is equally important.

Tom just didn’t know/remember how to play it.  There’s a difference between not knowing the song and not having the technical ability to play the song.

If you think Tom can play any Clapton you’re a special needs person.

I never claimed this nor do I even care if he can or can’t

I don’t care if he can either. But the point is someone else (Jan) said it and it just shows how far from reality your views on Tom are. People loved him because he is not the best guitarist out there. He would tell you that. Stop pretending he is something he isn’t. That’s all, peace

He’s not the most technically talented guitarist by any means. And I love him for that. However I think he’s the best of his era and genre, for my own (SUBJECTIVE) reasons I’ve stated.

It’s fine if you have your own definition of “best” Fap.

The best of his era and genre were not the parimeters. The claim was he is the best mainstream guitarist. Thanks for once again inserting yourself into a conversation and trying to move the goal posts.

Saying Tom is the best guitarist for his era is a bigger claim than he's the best current mainstream artist guitarist, sir clown diddy.

As for Clapton, Guns N Roses or w.e you're mumbling about.  Tom could easily play that if he wanted to, mid show intoxicated 5 second clip is not a good example.  He's also humble so he's not gonna show off and play a full Guns N Roses song and make Mark look bad.  There's layers to his guitar intricacies.

The main point is Tom could definitely play Clapton.  I don't think Clapton could play Tom's..
