Thanks for once again inserting yourself into a conversation and trying to move the goal posts. I’d also say he’s the best current mainstream guitarist too. Quote
allsystemsgo Posted January 11 Posted January 11 I'd listen to a Delonge riff over a meandering 5 min solo any day. Quality over quantity. 2 Quote

And you're literally saying everyone else's 'opinions' are wrong but yours is correct for some reason? Tom is not the best guitarist dude. He would tell you that. Quit slobbing his knob. there are far more people in this world who agree his is not the best than the few simps here that do. In no world is he the best guitarist. And that’s not a knock on him. I don’t know why you have to make ridiculous claims like “Tom could totally play Clapton if he wanted to.” and again, imagine agreeing with Clarke! 1 Quote

Your definition has been and remains “your favorite.” Not best I can’t really describe my definition of best. If I had to, I would look at two different factors: 1) the vibrancy, catchiness, and coolness of the emotional imagery and 2) the simplicity behind it. If you were to create a ratio based on the two, Tom definitely has the best. Back in the day it was definitely Andy Summers from the police. Quote

I literally heard 2 311 songs being played at Planet Fitness earlier this week lol. And they’re still great! Diddy my friend, 311 was my first favorite band, they have such a special place in my heart. My definition of "mainstream" was basically more like, does their new music still get attention from press/casual music fans? RHCP and Blink both had hits and gigantic tours from their latest albums, but 311 doesn't get that type of attention anymore. Personally, I also think their creativity/artistic output has been in "Cali/Nine" territory for like... two decades now too. I still love em though, and they're fucking awesome live every time. 1 Quote

You’re right. 311 is criminally underrated. The talent in that band surpassed RHCP. But 311 stills plays amphitheaters every year. On some of blinks down years, 311 did better. On blink’s best days, they do what 5k-10k more at the most? I never heard about blink outside of this website. They aren’t miles ahead of 311 as some of you have implied Quote

One More Time debuted at #1. RHCP put out two new albums in a single year that debuted at #1 and #3 respectively. 311's latest album debuted at #115. Don't put me in a position of shitting on 311, I have a lot of love for them haha. But no man, they are not mainstream in the way that Blink and RHCP are anymore. They're an awesome touring machine though, but I think that's different. 2 1 Quote

I’m just saying 311 was a mainstream band. Just because NSYNC isn’t selling millions of albums current day doesn’t mean they are underground all of a sudden. So this is a meaningless conversation. 311 is still mainstream. They’re just not as popular. 1 Quote

They had one song hit mainstream, which basically ripped off Pathetic, and were hardly mainstream even when pop punk was running rampant. Nsync isn’t mainstream anymore because they don’t exist. Try again. 1 Quote

I can’t converse with morons like you who default to “Tom is God” and try to call a band with 5-10 radio smashes a one hit wonder. You have no clue what you’re talking about. Songs like First Date and All the Small Things don’t stack up against those songs either you fucking retard. I mean, the fact you said Tom Delonge is the best at anything already proves that lmfao . Clown! 1 Quote

First Date and ATST absolutely are more popular/mainstream than any of those songs. Those are all fine songs in their own right, but Amber is the only one to hit mainstream. Alt radio for the rest is all they got. Even with Tom’s crunchy guitar riffs, they still find a way to break through to the mainstream. It’s unprecedented. 1 Quote
