that's not what mark said. the fan asked if it was written/recorded for the deluxe and mark said it was written during the initial sessions, meaning the first round of California sessions.

Weren't the initial sessions the ones where they created like 30 songs before Feldmman came on board?  The same initial sessions where Hey I'm Sorry came from?  That's what I'm inclined to believe.

its been made clear that "hey, im sorry" is the only one that was written pre-feldmann, and then they re-wrote and re-recorded it with feldmann.

How has that been made clear?  They've said many times they had like 20 to 30 songs written together before they started work with Feldmann and pretty much shelved just about all of them to start creating new songs from scratch which led to the creation of another 20 to 30 songs.

Ugh I wish I loved this song.

I'm gonna give it time. This one could be a grower, especially since I always claim I love "dark blink" so much. But this song was kind of cringe-worthy to me on my first listen. Really don't like the chorus, so bland and boring. And Matt's talking part in the bridge was a massive eye-roller for me.

I want more heavy stuff from blink. I want more dark stuff from blink. But this didn't click with me on my first go.

However, unlike the past couple of songs, I do have a desire to listen to this more than once, so that's a good sign!

Will come back in 20 minutes when I've decided that I love this song.

Yeah, and that podcast was also recorded before the Deluxe album was even floating around as a possibility.  Its very possible that in the time since when they decided to do the deluxe album that they went back to some of those songs from those sessions before Feldmman was on board and brought them to this new release.  I mean it could be a Feldmann song, but I'm not seeing any definitive proof of that at this point.

The tweet is weirdly unclear haha but I take "during the initial sessions" to mean the initial California sessions, and not one of the brand new songs they wrote after.

Yeah unfortunately initial sessions is pretty ambiguous.  But I mean if he considers the initial sessions to be the first songs they created with Feldmman, what sessions does he consider where Hey I'm Sorry and the other songs they shelved before Feldmann joined as?  The prelude sessions? haha

i just can't see feldmann allowing them to release anything he hasn't co-written at this point.

Well they're putting out Hey I'm Sorry on all copies of the deluxe album and not just the Japanese version of the album.  So I think that's a silly reason to think such a thing couldn't happen.

Haha good question, I THINK pre-Feldy they just wrote songs though they didn't have actual recording sessions right?

Well I guess then it really comes down to how they define a session.  I would think that any time they got together to work on the new album could be considered a session, but maybe they do only consider it a session when a producer is there and recording equipment is around.

nope, they had an entire recorded album ready to go. they just wanted to show it to a producer to see if they thought anything should change. turns out feldmann thought the whole thing was garbage so they shelved it.

They wrote (and supposedly recorded) a lot of songs in the winter without Feldmann leading up to the spring sessions with Feldmman.  The question is if the songs they made without Feldmman are what Mark consider the initial sessions (we know for sure these are the songs where Hey I'm Sorry came from), or if by intial sessions he means the first sessions they had with Feldmman there.
