I wanted to be into this, as I like a lot of Ramones-core style bands, but the lyrics are just too cringe.  I guess that's always been their thing, but it landed better when I was in high school. 

At the same time I love Teenage Bottlerocket and they have cringe lyrics too, but it comes off more..Beach Boys-y? Still cool The Queers are putting albums out though.

Queers are known for their bubblegum pop punk lyrics, I can see how it's a put off for some but it's one of my favorite things about them.

I'm pretty sure Joe wants to be Brian Wilson, @thongrider will have to back me up on that, so the Beach Boys comment is dead on.

Went on a road trip in highschool somewhere with my dad, I put on a Queers album and "Stupid Fucking Vegans" came on.  It's the only Queers song my dad will ever remember but he still will randomly sing the chorus lol.

I like some of their songs, but I can't get past what a giant douche Joe is. It really rubs me the wrong way for a straight dude to call his band the Queers while believing- as of 2016, anyway- that marriage should only be between a man and a woman.

What was actually said in the interview you're referring to that you didn't read:

"I support full rights for all gay people completely. There's no place for discrimination against them. I do however believe marriage is between a man and a woman. I think between gay people it should be called a civil union or something else, but the equivalent of marriage. So I don't agree with the actual word but agree with them getting all the benefits of marriage. I mean, its just semantics, it doesn't bother me one bit, and I support gay couples completely. I have more than a few gay friends who are now married, and I was at the weddings. It's great they have all the benefits of regular married couples."

I mean, yeah, technically he says "I believe marriage is between a man and a woman" before going on to explain what he means ... which isn't how you presented it.

I did read it years ago and those arguments are bullshit. I didn't say he's a raging homophobe, I said he believes marriage should only be between a man and a woman. He didn't say "should" or "only," so that's my mistake, but it was otherwise almost verbatim. I don't give a fuck how many gay friends he has or how many same-sex weddings he's been to. He thinks committed same-sex relationships should be labelled differently and that pisses me off.

Get over it. Who fucking cares ... like he said, it's just fucking semantics and his happens to go by the Merriam-Webster definition. It's not coming from a hateful place and he's not forcing his beliefs on anyone else.

I'm allowed to not listen to a band... it doesn't matter what my reason is. I'm not telling other people not to listen to them, I'm just sharing my thoughts... on a message board. Imagine that!

You misrepresented him and then acted like he was some awful human being because of it. If it were reversed you'd be the first to scream discrimination or homophobia. So, why are you so readily dismissive of other people or their beliefs while expecting different from them? I mean, it would be one thing if he was being hateful or something but he isn't, he's just giving his definition of marriage while saying his definition doesn't fucking matter and everyone should be able to do what they want. Personally, I'm pro-life but when it comes to everyone else ... fucking have at it, I don't gove a shit what you do with your body, my beliefs are my own and that's where they stay.

You don't know the first thing about him or his beliefs other than a single paragraph in a Vice article, that I'm sure you totally remembered  correctly and completely ignored the nonsense sensationalized headline, from 2016. It's not about whether or not you want to listen to his music or how many nights you lie awake thinking about him. It's about being the change you want to see, it's okay that people don't tick every morality or social awareness box you've created in your head. It doesn't mean they're bad people. 

I fully expect the patented sarcastic, dismissive response you usually give out so, that'll all be the last I have to say on the matter.

I quoted him quite accurately. And all I said is I think he's a douche, which is a very mild insult. You're overreacting.

And the fun thing about something like marriage is that we don't all get to make up our own definitions. It's a legal concept, so his definition in 2016 in the US was incorrect. Of course, it's also a religious concept and various denominations can define it however they like, but since he was talking about rights and benefits, it's fair to say he was referring to a legal/secular concept.
