Champ182 Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 My take on it is that OMT is such a special album BECAUSE they were so clearly and deeply inspired, and the music and lyrics reflect that. They had important things they wanted to express and it was beautiful and cathartic. That was an outlier compared to most of their output over the past 20 years, and I get the feeling that we probably shouldn't expect a full creative renaissance going forward. In their early days they were fueled by adrenaline and ambition and talent and fun, then for awhile they added some darkness and real artistry to the mix, and then for a long long time they went through the motions and/or dealt with writer's block and hurt feelings and/or tried to figure out how to maintain success without a true creative spark. The good news is that they showed us they could still harness that magic when they reconciled and worked together, but now that they got all of that off their chests I feel like they're mostly going to be fueled by the desire to just have fun together from now on. Which is fine and well deserved! Maybe that will result in some cool music, maybe it will result in more outside songwriters doing the work for them and some fluff being released, who knows? But as musicians they don't seem particularly interested in breaking new ground, and as artists and writers they don't seem to have a lot of internal emotions/angst/thoughts/friction bursting at the seams to get out very often anymore, which is why OMT was so special. Again, that's ok! It's not as fun for ME as a fan of the band, but my heart is so fucking warm from what they've managed to do over the last few years, I literally just want them to keep having fun and live their lives in peace haha. And I think that's their entire goal and motivation now. I just won't expect much more than that from their new music as we go into this next era. 4 2 Quote
Ghost Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 I can't judge by those snippets. I listened to them once and that's all until the full thing is released. I only can say that I'd love them to go on the Can't Go Back route for their new music. That sort of feeling that we had back with Untitled ant the live arrangements they did on that tour to some of those songs. 1 Quote

Drama-Free Jan Posted August 12, 2024 Posted August 12, 2024 Not gonna lie. This Amy Shark song is creeping up a bit. It’s pretty good all things considered. Quote

Ghent Posted August 12, 2024 Posted August 12, 2024 Sober is elite. Happy Days is ok, but nothing near Sober 3 1 Quote
Sun God Posted August 12, 2024 Posted August 12, 2024 Sober is actually alright. It’s not bad. It was just usually one of the skip tracks for me Quote
