Frank Woods Posted September 7 Share Posted September 7 Today the copyright rules are extremely stricter than in the past, so it is sufficient for another person to be present in the same studio where the recording was being made (and we know that Travis's one is frequented by many people) to be credited. In the same way, however, the rules apply to whoever played that song, so if I read "blink-182" as performers I tend to think that they actually played the individual parts themselves. And in any case we cannot underestimate the impact of technology in the studio: for example in the last 2 Iron Maiden albums you cannot hear the drum pieces actually played by Nicko McBrain, but his parts are a mix of real kit and pre-recorded samples. Iron Maiden fans are no longer upset by this fact: the band simply records all the new songs live but, since using the Paris studio, they place the drums in another room (otherwise they would cover the other instruments), and therefore Kevin Shirley (the producer) is unable to reproduce a uniform sound with that of the other recorded instruments.
