blink-182 Quits Tom Delonge

I think you would have seen a lot of shitty half ass "EP" releases (remember he said that's what he wanted to start doing with blink after DED). lots of merch packages with signed posters. Monthly subscription services to barely used fan clubs.

Just to make it clear, do you think DED is a shitty half ass "EP", or are you referring to anything else?

I disagree about Tom and Modlife. All members of Angels & Airwaves were very active on Modlife once upon a time. That all kind of ended when blink-182 got back together.

Yeah, to be honest, Tom reuniting Blink fucked AVA up! They stopped touring, stopped promoting, stopped pretty much everything.

And that led to Atom quitting the band, pretty sure that's why Matt left as well, and David started his coffee company. They didn't have any income anymore when Tom pretty much forgot about AVA and when Blink took up all of his time with all the touring and stuff. A shame really.

Blink joining Modlife would have posed a lot of existential problems for M&T.  Since Tom had been so noncommital from the start, they would be suspitious that Tom was trying to get Modlife and his other projects off the ground with a direct tie to blink.  This goes back to what Travis in effect said in the Rolling Stone interview that "the reason for the band reuniting in the first place was questionble."  Giving in to Modlife would hand over a lot of control to Tom, and eliminate any assurance that Tom wasn't just using blink for his other ends.  Mark's paranoia would never allow this, and rightfully so in this case.

If Tom would have gotten blink on Modlife, that would have meant that after originally quitting the band and having no control, he would have then gone from rejoining to major control in like 3 years.  Sounds like a premeditated plan to me.  And I think it did for M&T as well.

I think DED and Neighborhoods work for what they are. They are good releases for a band that never saw each other and never played together.

But I don't think they could have released more albums of that quality and expected the fans to stick around.

Nothing screams cash grab like blink joining modlife, making a subscription fan club, and releasing EPs only. The fans would have seen it. Mark and Travis avoided it.
