Seems to be a lot of love for One Night Stand online. A lot of these tracks are growers for sure. Take Me In is the weakest by far though.3 points

Just catching up here real quick: Dance With Me fucking rocks YDKWYG is great, but I agree the chorus is repetitive, and literally switching one different line in would have pulled it all together better. Ex) You don't know what you got/You don't know what you got/You don't know what you got til it's almost gone You don't know what you got/I wanna sail on a yacht/You don't know what you got til it's over (obviously not that actual line but something different right there haha) I have noooo idea how One Night Stand sounds like AVA? Olivia Rodrigo fucking rocks3 points

Jan is neither an alpha or partaking in any sort of intercourse so I'd take all of his opinions with a pinch of salt. He just likes to talk.3 points

The ole’s are great and fun and the final chorus kicks so much ass because the ole’s were there in the first place.3 points

Probably better for your image to have a solo opinion than share one with Jan tbh.2 points

I really find Childhood off putting lol. The only song on the album I'd kick off.2 points

childhood is underrated. the verse melody, likely pitched by brian lee (one of the songwriters), doesn't sound at all like something they would naturally write themselves. i think some of the lyrics are goofy (Why is everyone afraid to be themselves, not imitate?) and some feel revelatory (I'd never thought we'd end up here / We're back in time to the best years). but i do like that the guitar parts use more unusual chords than they typically employ, and i really really like the chiptune outro -- it's something NEW, something they've never done. the distorted, wall-of-sound chorus is somewhat grating but feels intentional in a big-brained way. the drum outro is also a little too derivative of i'm lost without you but i kind of like the way it dovetails with the 8-bit synth stuff. childhood underrated!2 points

We’re drawing ever closer to Jan deciding Take Me In is an underrated classic and we’re all fools for not seeing it like he does.2 points

That was such an improvement over the OG chorus, I’m gonna sing it like that for now on. Very relatable too. They should give you a writing credit.2 points

I was Dancing With Myself when Dance With Me came out. I loved it the moment I heard it - when you're feeling down and depressed, songs like these offer an escape from your mind, if you're strong enough to imagine a better future. It's just harder to rewire your brain quickly when you also have a passion for listening to darker material. It also holds a special place in my heart because I had it on repeat before sending a message that changed my life for the better. I love it even more now because the song came true. Energy - > attitude - > action - > "this can happen" It's the perfect song if you think about it.2 points

My comment was more about your posting in this thread in general, not this particular subject. I know what Rubin said and I know your opinion sucks.2 points

Like one person questioned you so maybe settle down on "slaying the board a new one"2 points

Oles in the first chorus's and lyrics at the end are what make the song. Wouldnt be half as good if he sang the end bit the whole song2 points

Honestly DWM was the best part of seeing them live. I did not expect the Ole’s to hit so hard.2 points

I love the use of the word underrated here. Perfectly said. It's just the grating production for me on the chorus makes it hard to listen to, everything is so loud. The song itself is super cool, Mark's voice sounds super cool here, almost get a Damon Albarn vibe, which Mark sounds good at. It is a song you never could picture them making in 1,000 years gives it an extra boost to me. the outro will always stick with me, I remember where I was listening to it on repeat the first few times. Looking up at the sun, it fit perfectly. Childhood on Pt. 2 level production would be super satisfying.1 point

I don't mind it much at all, I think the song rules overall and it's obviously one of their deepest darkest songs ever.1 point

Why the fuck is All In My Head such a grower. I hated this song first release, it fits nicely with the others now. Intro kind of annoys me still (zzommgg guitar explosion) but the rest of the song is fucking solid. The verses ride like an older blink song. "I gotta sickening feeling! We do this night after night but now I start to doubt it" is such a good delivery by Mark.1 point

I think you took my joke a bit too seriously. You can apply Dance With Me to anything you want to achieve or overcome in life - it doesn’t have to be about a girl or "dancing." The 'Olés' simply represent success or happiness. Life doesn’t always have to be dark, Jan. I love Neighborhoods.1 point

Good music is simply the music you like. Don't let anyone or anything take that away from you.1 point

Enema : TOYPAJ :: California : One More Time It’s true unless you’re a Tombot1 point

Yeah, plus Ole's at the end of the song after having a chorus with actual words would be so random and dumb that it would ruin the song.1 point

You don’t even know what you’re talking about. The 'Olés' were there from the beginning. They made Tom write a new chorus, which was later placed at the outro of the song.1 point

I will admit Mark's verses are great, but the chorus KILLS the song for me... That song should have been sat on longer and released with a much better (and less annoying) chorus. Sadly it wasn't so the song ultimately ends up being a miss for me.1 point
-
Well you see, the nauseating repetition is the beauty of it. An underrated gem!1 point
-
I used to like YDKWYG until the repetition got to me. The reason I enjoyed it more than DWM is because I felt Mark’s lyrics were touching.1 point
-
It's more tolerable than... "You don't know what you've got (x100)" because at least the chorus for DWM is quick and over with and doesn't take that long while YDKYG is a song that drones on and on while the chorus just makes the song even more obnoxious to listen to.1 point

Said this on another thread but childhood has such a nostalgic special feeling for me. The closer to the first album back with Tom when I never thought we would see them together again. OMT smashed expectations for me and that outro with the game boy type sound and Travis drumming will forever be imprinted in my mind.1 point

One thing I am enjoying about Part 2 as a whole: Tom’s voice is really hitting its stride again. There are some bad takes here and there (can’t stand his “talk about it” in All In My Head, it sounds like he’s about to choke on saliva), but for the most part, he has done a really good job working the raspy punk edge back into his voice without it sounding forced. Neighborhoods/DED were full AVA voice, and while One More Time was a step in the right direction, I think this release is the one that he finally feels fully “back”.1 point

1. Anthem Part 3 2. Dance With Me 3. Every Other Weekend 4. Terrified 5. One More Time 6. More Than You Know 7. When We Were Young 8. You Don't Know What You've Got 9. Blink Wave 10. No Fun 11. Everyone Everywhere 12. Hurt (Interlude) 13. Can't Go Back 14. Turpentine 15. One Night Stand 16. Other Side 17. Childhood Despite including 17 songs, it wouldn't be overly long since about half of the tracks clock in under the 3-minute mark. The original OMT was already quite sprawling and about showcasing the different sounds across blink's career with one or two curveballs (e.g. "Childhood" psychedelic feel and the chiptune outro)... That said, I simply chose the songs I consider stronger with a sequencing I believe would work. Getting all this stuff was amazing, but next time I hope they take a different approach: a more focused record that feels less like a collection of songs and leans less on throwbacks (blink has already mastered pop punk). Even if it's just 10 tracks total, either: 1. Go full new wave with more prominent synths - I think Paramore's After Laughter is a great example of a band from their scene doing it so well. Add some somber post-punk stuff like "All Of This" and expand on "Childhood" maybe... or 2. Something heavier, post-hardcore/emo-ish like Box Car...1 point

Although seeing a bunch of people who have said those songs suck for x amount of years suddenly jump on their dicks would be funny.1 point

I wanna hear Cynical with Tom... so bummed they dropped it before they got it prorecorded or streamed1 point

The riff in EE is pure Box Car, the verses are AVA, the bridge is Untitled. Riff is fucking killer, I’m glad Tom is writing cool riffs again. I love the No Fun riff too. Pretty obviously Can’t Go Back is one of the recent songs they wrote if it’s Marks fave, they wouldn’t leave that off OMT1 point
