theedge00 Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 Green Day has been around for about 30 years, won several Grammy awards and got inducted in the Rock & Roll HOF last year. Blink's been active for 24-25 years, arguably without the critical acclaim. What do you guys think? Quote
Osgod Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 Funny, thought about the same thing earlier today when I heard Green Day on the major pop radio station here in my country. i have to say no. Their big chance was with Untitled. They should have got more main stream success with it in terms of Grammy Awards etc and I'm still surprised they didn't get it. 1 Quote

Untitled was their shot. Quote
Ghent Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 There is a big difference between blink and Green Day in terms of musicianship. Green Day pulls off the classic rock vibe. They can cover any song..they can play solos..That is why they got in and can win Grammys. 2 Quote
Ghost Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 "They can cover any song..they can play solos..That is why they got in and can win Grammys." - by Ghent, explaining why Green Day got inducted to the R 'n R Hall Of Fame. Blink boards, November 2016. That's why Nirvana got inducted too, I guess. Hahahahaha. Come on, dude. I mean, they got into the HOF (and blink not yet) because they are, to put on a simple way, higher than blink and more influential at this point. That's it. As much as I love blink, and as much as I can't get into the political stupidity green day are putting out recently, that's the thing. Honestly? It all depends on blink. Enema is, sure, an influential album. Untitled, with Davey's permission, is an aclaimed record. But they went in a kind of weird spiral after that, and lost any consistence on their career they were gaining over the years. Right now, it just depends on them and how develop future records. 1 Quote

You're a moron. Goes beyond language barrier methinks. Quote
Ghent Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 I'm currently trying to picture Mark Hoppus rocking out with Joan Jett at the RR HOF live show...hehehe I want blink in as much as the next guy. I've posted about it several times over the years. Unfortunately it will never happen. Quote

Kay Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 No, they never will. I think Untitled was their chance to do that. not necessarily because the album was commercially huge, but they were in a special spot to break ground and not just be "those naked guys". the split happened, neighbourhoods was... well lets say 'uninspired' on a larger level, and California is content to relive the "look its those naked guys again" era, meaning they will never be considered as anything more. They could have, though. they definitely could have. and we can all blame Tom Delonge for that. 2 Quote
M!ke Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 They're gonna get inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I didn't think they would, but the more I've thought about it, I've come to realize it will happen. Does that mean they're a well respected rock band? I dunno, does it matter? The point is they've made their mark, and history will at least acknowledge that. 1 Quote
Scott. Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 Fuck the hall of fame. It's more punk rock if they're not in 4 Quote
bennett Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 if they continued to progress as a band following 2004, absolutely i think they would have. right now in 2016? absolutely not. they have cemented their place in history as the "fun naked band i listened to in high school" 1 Quote

Eventually they might, but it will be way down the road. They've never even been nominated for a Grammy. That would be the first step if they wanted in any time soon lol. Quote
Coddled Jan Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 If they would have followed up Untitled properly and not 8 years later... Yes. They had a great trajectory going. They're still a mega popular band for their short stint though between Enema and Untitled. Quote
_Kyle_ Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 I actually say yes. I think they will be more favored as time goes on and will be seen as innovators. I absolutely think they'll be inducted in the HOF. Quote

Cali showed in what direction Mark wants to push the band and that doesn't match at all with the way Tom wants to make music nowadays which for sure lead to a lot of arguments and conflicts during the creative process. California is just an extra nail in the coffin. Quote
Ghent Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 If anything California has removed a nail from the coffin. Could be the first album that gets them a Grammy nomination in something. Quote
_Kyle_ Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 Well consider this. Blink had a hit in 1997. What band from 1997 still has hits? Green Day, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers ...um Metallica maybe? All of those bands have/will be in. Blink is just as likely. They have Travis. They have sold around 40 Million records worldwide, right when digital downloads started to tank the album sales thing. They still get written about. They might be creative-commercial paradox right now, but I think they'll make it in. Them and Weezer, I'm certain of. 1 Quote
Ghent Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 At least 10 years before they even start to get considered though I bet. When bands/kids that they influenced start calling shots within the music industry is when they might get notoriety in that form. 1 Quote
