  1. i've posted here before i write/maintain the blink wikipedia pages and i found a cool site with photos of mark/engineers in the studio recording the untitled album. i emailed the company and got in touch with the original photographer, who let me use high-res versions on wiki. i talked to him on the phone, he told me about the day he took photos. he said mark was the nicest guy. he had a photo of mark flipping off the camera but didn't feel that appropriate to post on their site lol. thought it was cool!

  8. I took 7 years of French between middle school, high school, and college. I remember when a lot of the concepts were new and confusing to me. But at this point I have such a strong grasp on the language that it all does make sense to me. Its never something that just clicks overnight, its just something that steadily all becomes very clear to you. The reason I took so much French was because in my middle and high schools, it was such a fun class. Our teachers (2 of them between the 2 schools, but both very fun and clearly worked together a lot) would find any excuse to throw some sort of French themed party, we created a sign up sheet where everyday a student would bring in a treat to share with the class even if we weren't throwing parties. We'd watch movies in French (and on party occasions, in English with French subtitles, I recall watching Christmas Vacation that way for our Christmas party), ultimately they did a fantastic job of making learning French fun, and thats why I kept signing up for it every year. Conversely, our Spanish teachers in my home town were apparently very dry and boring, I didn't have many friends that stayed in our school's Spanish classes, but a ton like me that stuck with French throughout all of high school and many even into college.

  16. Frank is awesome - seen him like a dozen times now - such a great choice of opener, and love how it's not some generic 'popular' pop punk band as per recent tours. And bet Frank's pretty stoked himself - seems to be a fan of Blink, Green Day, etc etc.

  18. I studied French for 8 years, from second grade to 9th grade. Never got completely fluent but I was able to carry on conversations, probably poorly but still. Then I went to Peru for two years and learned Spanish. At first it was hard because I kept wanting to speak French, but eventually I became fluent in the Spanish language and it completely took over whatever French I still knew and replaced it in my head. I seriously cannot speak French at all now. It was just replaced with Spanish in my head. Kind of sad that I can say I took 8 years of French and have nothing to show for it. Though it definitely helped me to learn Spanish faster, because there are so many similarities. I hate the letter R in both languages though. The French R is easier for me to pronounce. I still can't roll my Rs for shit, which is the one thing I never got down in Spanish. Everyone always said "don't worry, it'll come naturally with time!" Well, it didn't. I can't roll my Rs to save my life. So, I was fluent in Spanish, but basically fluent with a speech impediment.

  19. Our English professor in high school was a very old woman, out of touch with reality, and our first two years were all about the grammar. She was crazy but I can't thank her enough because once you know the grammar, the big part of the job is done. If you're motivated, then you have to stay focused, read a lot, watch TV shows and movies to improve your vocabulary and learn new idioms, never give up. The big mistake is thinking "I want to say that, but how can I say it?" You know it clicked when you start thinking in that language and you don't care about the translation of what you want to say because it kinda comes natural.. It seems like a long way but it's usually quicker and it's worth it.

  20. Ghent is right, if you apply yourself it would be fine, but most didn't. Man I had great times in my Spanish 1 freshman year, the teacher, Mrs Starkman was insane. Some chick gave a guy a handjob in the back of the class and she found out so she had our desks arranged where half the class faced the other so she could watch everyone, but then when she turned her back to the chalk board one side of the class just tossed shit and the other side, it was like paper wars. She ended up moving the desks back. She always had these weird stories come up right in the middle of class like one minute she'd be teaching us, the next minute she'd be talking about how some guy beat her up and she sued him and put him in jail.

  21. High School foreign language classes probably work just fine if the student actually gives a shit. But in most cases only the super nerds try. The rest slack off and skate by with C's not knowing anything.

  22. I would say my english is decent, hahaha, not more (I'm sure if you put me in the middle of London, I'd freak out, lol). But thank you. And yep, that's the word: click. I don't know why, nor when, but it clicked on my brain, and suddenly it all was getting easier. Funny thing is that I would never imagined that I'd be able to speak it to the point to be able to have a conversation, and I do it when I interview some bands. It uses to end up as a conversation, which is amazing. Anyway, I'm always trying to improve it! Also, I speak another language, catalan, which as some of you may know, is a co-offical language here in Spain -along with euskera-, but only spoken in some regions. It has some points in common with Spanish, French and even Italian. Yeah, Keith has his own language, hahaha .

  24. Agree, Oliver. In fact, I've learned a lot more by myself, and staying motivated by reading, hearing, watching subjects that are interesting to me in english, than in high school. In fact, now I'm able to read whole books in normal speed. The only times I struggle while reading is when some technical shit is thrown down. For example, I'm not able to comprehend a scientific text about... whatever... physics. But, overall, I've been able to read by now a few books in english. The last one I'm reading right now is the Keith Richards' biography. And there, sometimes, Keef uses some kind of gang I don't get, but, overall, all ok. One thing that surprised me was that, even without being able to say when, I just started to understand spoken english like by magic. I can see interviews, reviews, chats... understanding the 98% of what's been said.

  25. High School Languages are BS. I took 3 years and learned virtually nothing. I remember my very last day in Spanish 3 and the professor had a conversation with us in spanish and graded us on how we responded, so he started talking all this crazy shit and I was like "No comprede amigo" and I got an F. LOL You take all these classes, they load you up with a shit ton of homework, sometimes you have after school activities, sometimes you have a part time job, plus you are a teen, and want a social life, and you want to bang a lot too. So in summary, no one's got time for that shit. Learning a second language takes a huge commitment.

  29. I really liked them and yes, they are helpful from an academic perspective and if you want to learn italian, french or spanish. The Russian alphabet shares many similarities with the Greek one and that's a good thing for me now, but, other than that, I still haven't used them in real life. Btw, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to let the thread go completely off topic haha

  31. But greek and latin are the roots of a lot of language, surely? I know latin can be very helpful for learning french / italian / spanish etc they may be 'dead' languages but they impact on a lot of other ones. Well thats what my missus says, she has a joint degree in Latin.

  32. Learning another language is so damn difficult and frustrating. Not get offtopic. I was thinking of making a language topic because I know some here speak more than one. I am trying French and it is so hard. Some of the stuff is just like "WHY" like why the fuck do you need 3 different words for the word "my" are you trying to make learning this a living hell?

  36. Frank Turner is opening for blink on the UK tour. Isn't that amazing? Even though I think I'm the only one excited about it because the 90% of blink fans don't listen to him and they'd rather have Neck Deep or All Time Low instead of Frank.
