The Watcher Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 What did you want them to play at a festival filled with casual fans? Cheshire Cat front to back? If they tour and it's nothing but the same old setlist, then yeah, gay. But Matt is just getting his balls wet. You say that the songs are easy, and they are for the most part, but it's not like he can just whack off for a few months and then go perform. Dude's gotta practice, and he clearly has. They killed it. Quote
Ghost Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 So here's the point for some people (yet). The band decides to kick out the guy who was stomping the brake pedal at 100% and ruining legacy and future, finding on the way a pretty awesome replacement for him, Mr. Skiba -who had to come in to play three shows in less than 3 months- and they, some people, just go like this: - Skiba messed up the fourth note of the fifth section of X song, see?. (Come on... when Tom was fucking very show they played since... 10 years ago)- The band is playing the greatest hits set, fuck Mark Hoppus. (Without taking in count that Skiba is new, and he has to learn a good amount of songs. The logical step is going for the most usual ones, and then go into some deep cuts -the band, with DeLonge, never got that deep on the past 10 years-).- Skiba is not fitting in some songs. (When they are not his songs, and Tom -even being co-author- wasn't able to give them 100%. LAtely, Tom barely fit on his own songs, which was just painful to see.) Even though, Matt has been awesome. He's filling the place for one big character here. Being the guywho fills in for Tom DeLonge is not a thing that sunds easy to me. Even if the songs can be played for anyone who is learning guitar. I mean, to be in blink, replacing o of its members is more than learn a few songs. Guys, it's not like you are sitting at home playing through Garage Band messing with some hits. Nope. And Skiba just delivered. So, ok. I can understand the feeling of well... "weirdness" (sigh), seeing blink without Tom. But, come on... those shows have spoken. The band is now on a very good shape and, moreover, is just spreading good vibrations all over; between the three members, and all over the fans. 4 Quote

J-Town Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 I haven't said anything bad about the actual performance or Skiba joining. I don't give a fuck if he messes up a line or guitar part here or there. He fucking killed it. It's a new chapter for the band and it's awesome. If the band goes on tour and plays a few songs off Cheshire Cat/Dude Ranch, I'll be happy. I just thought they finally would play 2-3 of those songs due to Mark and Travis's comments in interviews/on social media, and it didn't happen. I think it's fair to voice frustration at that when this has been the problem for the past 6 years. If they come through and play some older stuff on their next run of shows, I'll retract this statement. I just still don't believe we're going to see any of that stuff until it happens. 2 Quote
radioactive tomdog Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 seriously? the majority of you have heard these songs a million times and have probably already learned how to play them. i'm willing to bet matt went in to this only having heard a few blink songs a handful of times without ever trying to play or sing them (why would he anyway?). if my main band was about to go on a tour playing our entire discography, i guarantee you i'd need a teleprompter for lyrics of an entirely different band's songs. i'd fuck some of them up too. 1 Quote

They killed it. It wasn't a festival filled with casual fans. It was a festival run by Travis, with blink "officially" debuting the new lineup to close it out. It was a lot of bigger fans. People flew out and drove far for this. I met people from Argentina, Chile, a kid who drove from Florida, two guys who flew from Montreal, my friend flew in from Boston, etc. Performance was amazing. I still think they could have at least thrown in M+M's given what they practiced. Everyone knew every word to every song, that one would have been no different. Regardless, I had a BLAST. The progress they've made is incredible, the set list tweaking will hopefully be the last piece of the puzzle. 4 Quote

Of course we'd all need a teleprompter. That wasn't a dig at Skiba, that was me saying he really could perform a lot of songs at least from a knowing the words standpoint since he had the teleprompter to help him. I know bands where original members use teleprompters haha there's nothing wrong with that. Quote
theedge00 Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 lol some serious markbots here, the setlist was shit, period. If you cant see that you're just as blind as the tombots from the ava movement. Mark was behind the stale setlist all these years. Though Ghost makes some good points. 2 Quote
Speedo Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Hey, you guys should argue about mundane, asinine shit some more. 1 Quote
Knapppers Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 I agree with ghost on the setlist stuff, but Mark did hype up the setlist a bit too much for what we got. I never did agree with everyone here when they thought it was Tom who made them have a stale setlist Quote
One Eight Two Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Hopefully they can continue as blink-182, record a new album, and surprise us all with some fast, pop punk tunes. Quote
hammerpipe Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Well every song feels new to me with matt so I have no complaints honestly. Quote
Ghent Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Its just about got to the point where all annoying set list whining needs to go in its own thread so the rest of us don't have to suffer through it. 1 Quote
allsystemsgo Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Can I just bring up the fact that the setlist...isn't good? Right Ghent? Quote
decisions Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Are you guys serious... Mark and Travis have to deal with replacing Tom and you expect them to alienate casual fans even more by playing a bunch of pre-Enema songs? That's just unreasonable. They showed everyone that someone else can handle Blink's hits, they had to say, "Blink is back!" in a big way. And they did. Imagine if all those kids at the three of those shows didn't even know half the songs they played..They would've associated that disappointment with Skiba and it would've been a lot harder to get fans to accept him. They were smart to play hits here. 2 Quote

Chewy030 Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 why, the discussion is totally valid. Not when it's been fucking beat to death over a million times on this board... Seriously take this shit to it's own damn thread. Quote
