2point5 Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 Also I imagine the bulk of these songs were recorded whilst they were on tour so his voice was under even more strain than normal. Quote
Elisa Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 We know they use a live-auto tune on tour but he sounds just fine, I wish there was a way to get rid of that metallic tinge in the voice on the album because I love his voice, but it’s alright. I’d rather hear slightly off pitch vocals than flawless but metallic sounding ones. With Travis I think it’s more a stylistic thing though, like in all the modern hip hop stuff he listens to. Very electronic production, therefore electronic vocals. 4 Quote

fran.182 Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 "Everyone Everywhere" is the biggest grower for me so far. "Exodus from the mind" is such a cool line. Both this and "All In My Head" have some of those insanity and escapist vibes "Turpentine" did so well. 2 Quote

They were kind of doing this on Cali/Nine too so might be a Mark allowed to have preference as well. Either way, when you hear his more natural voice come through, it is like 'Wtf' why have that tinny metallic sound more than as a literal effect once in a while, not his normal voice now. I have no idea how Can't Go Back still sounds so good, because that might be the worst offender. 3 Quote
Coddled Jan Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 Huge shoutout to (Travis I presume?) for these Feeling This-esque multiple vocals finales on Everyone Everywhere and One Night Stand. I hope they don't do this every song, but it sounds absolutely great on both these. I can't tell if Tom forgot his lyrics or not at the end of the One Night Stand bridge? Last night was where. Where what? The rich girl's roommate got laid? 1 Quote
ManchesterAdam Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 I feel like If You Never Left is what Run Away was supposed to be. No disrespect to Run Away, one of my favourite songs from the Skiba era but something about IYNL just feels like a better version of Run Away. Quote
blinkAVARacer Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 If You Never Left has definitely grown on me the most. I just wish they let the song breathe a bit before going into the bridge, it sounds too abrupt to me. Can't Go Back is still my favorite, and honestly, all of the tracks are growing on me. Overall this OMT era has blown past my expectations. I'm super happy for the band. 5 Quote

Mau5 Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 Popping my head in - waited for the full "drop" to listen to all the new songs and man this is literally such a complete "comeback" album. It is what Neighborhoods was supposed to sound like. AVA is there, +44 is there, Cali blink is there, and what has been born is a brand new era of blink where all members are collectively pushing each other to be and put out their best stuff behind the brand and band that deserves it. I never thought we'd get here again. Fucking great. 5 1 Quote
Scott. Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 Back to Marks vocals. It must be a stylistic choice because he sounds fantastic on bad news so why not keep his vocals like that throughout? 1 Quote

Like I said earlier, they've toured pretty heavily since One More Time came out and maybe its taken a lot out of him Quote
Kay Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 *sigh* okay. No Fun - 6/10. The long intro verse takes too long, the pre chorus is kind of awkward and the riff seems.. just.. not thought out, but it’s ironically quite fun. Tom sounds good. Some of the lyrics are surprisingly honest and genuine from them. It’s pretty good, chorus could’ve been better. All In My Head - 7/10. I love how much this does yet doesn’t sound like blink. It sounds fresher but still like something they’d make I guess. The guitars aren’t what you expect but sound really good. I don’t hate the cum stains line tbh because contextually it makes sense, I think the chorus runs too long and sounds a little weird but it’s mostly good. Again surprisingly okay lyrics. Bridge is a bit pointless. Cant Go Back - 7.5/10 I like this one instrumentally quite a lot. Probably my favourite chorus of them all. Simple but effective. The piano in this feels almost Untitledish. Every Other Weekend - 6.5/10 This feels like poppy cure vibe. I do wonder if this didn’t make the cut because they preferred Blink Wave. I think it’s cute really, the cure aspect feels really obvious in the chorus and instrumentation but the days of the week really sold it haha, bridge is nice too! It’s a bit too poppy for me but it’s a solid song. Everyone Everywhere -6/10 I like how weird this is. I don’t think this is more BCR than Terrified like some said although I do get the bcr feels. I like how dynamic and messy it is in places, but it doesn’t grab me enough to be super hyped on it. It does not feel like a finished idea. The last chorus is refreshing though. If You Never Left - 4/10 (on my notes on first listen all I typed was “wtf”) Well, it’s not Fell In Love, but it’s close to being that bad. Too cheesy and corny for me really, could replace their voices with literally any current pop punk band and you wouldn’t know. Just not for me. Pre chorus is alright I guess? One Night Stand - 5/10 I kinda like the chorus. The verses are kinda… dumb. Not sure how to put it. Just a bit silly. I like it instrumentally but the melody and lyrics are just… not it. Take Me In - 3.5/10 This sounds like it was written for a Disney pop princess. I do not like it. The vocal melody is excruciating frankly. Musically soulless too. The chorus slaps enough for me to rank it a little higher, but the lyrics keep it from getting higher than that. Seriously the melody is so painful wtf that bridge 😂 OooOooOoo Overall? Honestly? Much better than I expected. A lot of formulaic ideas and it is quite so-so with a turn for the worst halfway through, but I rank some of these higher than the main records tracks (looking at you fell in love, edging, wwwy, hurts, childhood, see you and that other extra shitfest I forgot about). Mark does sound really roboty throughout but I do think that might be a fix for his recovery so I’ll lay off. I might add a few to my main playlist, pleasant surprise. 5 Quote
Scott. Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 Man childhood catching strays. I can’t cope. I fucking love that song 2 1 Quote
Scott. Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 Nice write up though Kay. I think we gotta remember most of these were scrapped for OMT so for songs deemed not good enough I think they’re really solid 1 Quote
