If you told me Feeling This was written by 8 others I'd still like it but take it back a bit if I'm not envisioning Mark and Tom writing this. They're pop artists, different standards. Not comparing either Isn’t that a bit hypocritical though? ABBA was a pop rock band dude. Quote

Last Train Home is still my favorite Skiba heavy blink song, is that weird? Darkside and Run Away would be next though. TOTTM verse for best moment 1 Quote

Drama-Free Jan Posted May 17, 2020 Posted May 17, 2020 I'd go blink DR - Self Titled > Boxcar +44 > Neighborhoods = good AvA > Alk3 > California = NINE > bad AvA > Deluxe Quote

I chat to a lot of people at work out music and a lot of them have no idea the band are even still together let alone releasing music. I guess it depends on who you talk with really. I've got a couple of friends who aren't fans of blink outside of the singles, yet one of them has posted Darkside on their Snapchat story. I'm aware that's a single but it's basically as popular as a deep cut haha. I've heard Darkside been played in one of my locals as well. I definitely think there are a lot of people who are aware blink are still around. The feeling I get is that most people know blink are still together, but they probably haven't realised any difference in the band such as Tom leaving and being replaced by Skiba. Blink did headline the Reading & Leeds festivals twice in the space of 4 years over here as well. Those festivals are massive in UK. People like Machine Gun Kelly & Yungblud are probably keeping blink's existence known too, due to Travis' association with them. Guys like XXXTentacion (w/e his name is) and the Chainsmokers have a huge fanbase and I guess people that listen to them probably noticed the featuring blink-182 part. It might be different for me cause I've always surrounded myself with people who are quite into their music whether it's punk, alternative, rap, indie, rock, metal or whatever. So most people I know in person definitely know blink are still around but probably haven't heard about Nine. But I have noticed Darkside been played in bars or people's social media stories and shit. Quote
boxelder Posted May 17, 2020 Posted May 17, 2020 NINE is an interesting experiment... it’s fascinating but also a little sad to see blink enter the phase of their career where they just hire songwriters. some elements of NINE are fresh, but it does sound very same-y. heaven might have the most devastating lyrics the band’s ever shared, and NHTSO is definitely among the best of this era. i like songs like pin the grenade, which is a good throwback. the melodies in OSES work their way into your head even if the lyrics are horrible. hangover you is a banger. happy days is an honest plea for less anxiety, which is earnest, but the lyrics seem a little too straightforward or generic. TLDR: it’s a mixed bag. it’s just kind of weird. band will never be the same again, and skiba still appears to have an undue share of duties. still, there’s things to like about it 4 Quote

iguessthisisgrowingup Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 nine was a step in the right direction (no heart to speak of ) , but it isn't a great album. the production sucks and the multiple song writers is embarrassing. and some of the songs ( blame it on my youth) are god awful 1 Quote
Neal Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 I havent listend to nine since it came out. Decided to give it a spin yesterday. Half way in the first time i skipped, and i ended up skipping through until run away and decided to turn it off. The record aged terribly for me, and i'll probably never listen to it again. 2 Quote

I removed blame it on my youth and that awful song that we only got the ending of that sounds like a demo (which I forgot the name of), and that made it a great album to me at least. That along with a slightly different song order made all the difference and no skipping necessary in my case I really liked this one from the start though Quote

Champ182 Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 Happy Days is almost a good song but the chorus lyrics/title are just so bizarrely bad that it's almost like they were placeholders they forgot to replace. "I wanna feel Happy Days"?? I'm not sure whether people outside the US know the old tv show Happy Days but here in the US that is the ONLY thing that comes to mind when you hear that phrase. It's pure cheese from the 1970s but Fonzie and the gang are such a cultural touchstone from being insanely popular at the time and then being on constant reruns for 4 decades that, for me anyway, I have never NOT thought of that tv show when I hear the song hahah. It would've been so easy to put a more meaningful phrase into the lyrics. (Not to mention the fact that "I wanna feel happy days" is just a lame sounding line to repeat over and over anyway. The rest of the song deserved better.) 2 Quote
