I bet half the cats on this board have only listened to NINE 2-3 times, assumed Feldmann produced it all, took their shits on it early for points, and never to listened to it again.

Genuinely, if it weren’t a blink record, would you relisten to a record more than twice if you don’t enjoy it? Like who actually does that?

I agree Heaven is the best song from NINE, First Time is my favorite though.

The problem with the album is it's pretty solid in places (like those two songs) or absolutely abysmal, as embarrassing or more embarrassing than parts of Deluxe, like Blame It On My Youth, or all the cheesy sound effects throughout songs like Black Rain.  Generational Divide is petty as hell..  It also just sounds very clear the songwriter teams was a thing since every song sounds like someone else wrote the pieces.

I did.  I've listened to it about 50 times and hate it still.  Sometimes you hope it might grow.

i relistened to nine not long ago and found it very mid-tier. it doesn’t work quite as well as cali because it doesn’t stick to one sound, and clearly sounds like a band lost in step with the times and lost in purpose. it can’t figure out what to do with matt, like kay said he’s relegated to screaming banshee man mostly. there’s some interesting musical moments — the outro of NHTSO comes to mind. and some of the lyrics aren’t bad in spots (heaven), but they frequently feel out of character. there’s things like the imagine dragons pastiche RTFM that just evoke groans even now.

all said, i’m fond of quite a few tunes on nine, especially pin the grenade for some reason, which i’ve always enjoyed.

This is pretty much the most spot on take.  They just feel to have lost their purpose is a good way of putting it and "trying" to fit in, in some weird way which is even more weird for blink of the past.

Yeah I'm no fan of Nine but BIOMY isn't bad to me. It reminds me of Bleachers who I also like, and it feels like a pretty natural mix of Blink ingredients + 80s new wave + modern pop rock production. Not the worst of Nu Blink by a long shot.

(whoops just got to the bridge while re-listening, damn that's bad haha)

This just happened to me.  I actually like Matt's part of the chorus, but the verses and instrumental are awfully bad, and then the bridge happens..  I miss making fun of these songs with everyone. "we were raised on the ritalin!" classic

Mom and dad they quite don't understand it
All the kids they laugh as if they planned it
Why do girls wanna pierce their nose?
And walk around in torn pantyhose, oh yeah!!!!!!!

So much wrong with this go-to rebuttal everyone seems to use for bad blink lyrics.

You can’t leave it there, explain.  I’d love to know why this is actually a good lyric

It's not a good lyric it's just a different time.  When they were 25, not 40s/50s.

Also, "And walk around in torn pantyhose, oh yeah!!!!!!!" should be a dead giveaway the difference between Tom being Tom and current blink being lameos.

If you don't get it you don't get it.

It's not a good lyric if you're 25 either.

give me a break dude. you would have to be 13-16 years old to relate to that lyric. They were 26-29 years old

There are tons of corny lyrics that they were too old to write, especially in that era. But I'm glad they wrote them. I ate it up in HS.

Yea I ate that shit up and Give Me One Good Reason is still one of my all time faves to this day. I’m still with Jan tho, there is a difference and this song beats the shit out of blame it on my youth any way you slice it

I never commented on which song was better. I prefer GMOGR

Give Me One Good Reason was already corny when I was in middle school haha. A rare total misfire from the glory days.

super agree. i discovered blink in my teens like everyone else, and i always thought GMOGR was super duper cringe. it's got some astonishingly bad lyrics. though i do chuckle at "heavy metal-ers with their awful pussy hair bands" lol

I know you weren’t saying biomy was better I was just stating my opinion . Lots of cringe lyrics all over TOYPAJ, but the music and tones are awesome

TOYPAJ really has some bad lyrics. When I was 13 I thought the lyrics were bad ass and full of attitude. It's like blink were trying too hard to give it that youthful rebellious edge to it. It just wasn't anywhere close to being genuine the way Enema was.

Funnily enough, I actually rate the singles First Date and the Rock Show. The lyrics aren't awful and they're not great either. They're just damn catchy songs that'd fit perfectly on Enema. Those two songs were the ones blink didn't even try hard with.

Obviously they were told by their label to write two of the cheesiest songs they could think of, but it's obvious they didn't try hard writing them songs. That's why I think they're classic blink songs. Instrumentally TOYPAJ is amazing. I think it's best blink album by far when it comes to instruments and melodies.

As for Blame It On My Youth, I do love the modern pop production to it. I just don't like the lyrics but don't find them awful either. I just find them pretty weak. Don't like the gang vocals either, but it's a solid song outside of those two things.
