I’d expect nothing less from this place lol. Let’s give credence to wack artists and hate on genuine and authentic bands

Well, they’re no MGK, obviously. (Said it sarcastically before @scoobscould genuinely express it)

Gaslight Anthem aren't a bad band but they're not great for me either. They're one of those bands where I like 2-3 songs but then I feel like every other song they do sounds the same or has the same vibes as those 2-3 songs. I get easily bored of them bands.

I’ve never listened to much Springsteen so I don’t really get the references/imitation issues. Only know that Born in the USA song and that doesn’t really sound like anything Gaslight have done that I’ve heard.

I’ll take this opportunity to plug my favorite band. Social D is so legit that Bruce Springsteen has performed with Mike Ness multiple times. Here’s Bruce and his E street band with Ness performing a Social Distortion song

Nice! Bruce is the man. I know he’s shown up to play at Social D shows and he’s had Mike Ness perform with him at multiple Bruce Springsteen shows. What a cool dude.

Not sure if you’ve seen the Netflix special he taped when he was doing his broadway stint, but it’s fantastic. Dude is an amazing storyteller.

I wasn't going to, but the hate here doesn't make sense.

i don't see why. everything after 59 sound is pretty boring alterna-weaksauce (with a few notable exceptions, like four or five songs).

Diamond Church Street Choir

Queen of Lower Chelsea

Spirit of Jazz

45

Howl

Blue Dahlia

Underneath the Ground

Have Mercy

Break Your Heart

Halloween

Not an impressive list considering it’s from 3 albums, but those all stand up for me. You can easily double the list with Horrible Crowes and Brian’s solo stuff though.

As for the influences, Springsteen was definitely over the top in 59 Sound but it was fun to hear a modern Americana band from punk roots borrow from Against Me, Springsteen, Petty, Pearl Jam/Nirvana, Tom Waits, the National, etc. over albums. I guess copying doesn’t bother me much if it still produces good music IMO. Leonard Cohen in Have Mercy is great

They aren’t an overly talented band outside a good songwriter and pretty good guitarist, though.

Shit talk TGA all you want, but this acoustic performance trumps anything post-2004 Blink has done IMO:

I'm so glad Blink never did anything like this and ever started taking themselves this seriously.

Not many are on his level, good point

Yea, little girls who play air guitar and sing horribly off key in the shower are on the same level as him. He will never reach a level of respect or talent as a band like GA has.

Are little boys who play air guitar and sing horribly off key in the shower better or worse than MGK?
