Probably the greatest American band ever ? Peter Buck’s jangly guitar, Michael Stipe’s as an enigmatic frontman. Mike mills fucking rips on bass. Berry as the motor , incredible. Reckoning is wonderful, it’s like some trippy dream. They were special. One band I wish I saw live Quote

Speedo Posted June 17, 2020 Author Posted June 17, 2020 I gave Pet Sounds a solid go ... for months, a few times a week I listened to it because it's everyone's favorite album. The production and technical aspects are solid but it's just not my style, I just couldn't get into it at all. Quote

First time I listened to it in its entirety was so amazing. Wish I'd get to do that again. The opening with the prayer and then going in to Gee gives me the chills every time Quote

thongrider Posted June 17, 2020 Posted June 17, 2020 I prefer most Beach Boys albums from before it, but I do admit there is something special about that album. Quote

It's so perfectly written that it doesn't even need the music. You could listen to the vocals only tracks without it sounding empty or dull. Same goes for the instrumentals, you could listen to those as well without the feeling that the vocals is missing. Such a perfect album 1 Quote

Closely followed by Beach Boys i can't imagine creedence comparing to the discography of a group like R.E.M. their greatest hits barely fills a single CD, and half those songs aren't really good anyway. the beach boys were popular in the early years, sure. pet sounds is brian's masterpiece. the rest of the sixties are really hit or miss. their seventies output is more dreadful than listenable. holland? jesus. if you read polls of music journalists, worldwide, R.E.M. consistently ranks one or two, up with bands like radiohead.
