Maybe it’s just me but there’s no way I would put six years of my life into building something new, have more fame / success than I have had in my entire career, worked on almost an entire new album, and then is told you’re done and that album work will never see the light of day; and just not have *any* sour grapes. Having your professional role taken away without you having any control over the situation is a terrible feeling even if it’s for the best. And that’s okay. It’s a shit situation for skiba

Dude I doubt he had much input into those songs anyways, let’s be real here. I doubt he gives a fuck. He knows what his role was

I would love if a few years down the line that Blink tour with Alkaline Trio and go on to bring out Skiba to play a small handful of the best Cali and Nine songs at each show. I'm sure there would be fans here never on-board with such a thought, but I think that'd be really cool, and as far as I can tell, there is no bad-blood between any of them, so it seems feasible. Heck, they got Robert Smith to perform All of This with them live before when it was convenient for him.

I would love a super show where they have a massive blink set split with boxcar, AVA, +44 and they can even throw in a couple of transplants greatest hits. Bring Alk3 to warm things up so he can play those handful of Cali and nine tunes....

That doesn’t imply that blink with skiba wasn’t blink though.

I think once this album comes out people will be saying that..

I love skiba but you can tell he had very little imput on the guitar side of blink, once you hear toms riffs on this album suddenly it will click.

Those people will be wrong.

blink with 100% committed Mark, Tom and Travis is without question the best blink we can get. Blink with Mark, Matt and Travis is still blink though.

Imagine having to put decades of work into your band to probably not have enough to live comfortably in California, starting to lose some steam with the band and then getting the opportunity to pretty much just cash out with some slight annoyance of dealing with blink fans/pressure for a few years then getting to go right back to all that after, but with far less stress.

I think he made out fine.

I disagree. Skiba was always deeply respectful of Tom’s role and knew the deal, I think he helped out his friends, did what was expected and made a shit ton of money. Most of that music didn’t sound like him or suit him at all anyway so I am not convinced it was much of his own work.

Alk3 are releasing an album in Jan, he’s started a side project since, I think he’s absolutely fine.

He was a poor cultural fit for the the band, but in the end it might have been for the best that way. It never felt like he was trying to be Tom or trying to take his role. He did what was asked, was respectful the entire time, caused no drama, did his best, was productive, and grateful.

If you can’t agree with any of that you’re a tombot

Except the Nathan thing.  That was some bullshit.

Yea I agree, poor cultural fit. At no fault of his own. But definitely better than some All Time Low chump coming in trying to mimic a whiny voice and all that, that would have turned me off worse than Oliver looking at a naked woman.

It really depends on their agreement and communication during that time.

I would imagine they told Skiba that there’s always a chance Tom returns as an original member of the band. They might have had an agreement (or even contract) to work year-to-year or album-to-album with nothing concrete long-term. If they were transparent and on the same page the whole time, I don’t see the big deal? Matt got to make a lot of money and got more fame to help boost Alk3, I’m sure he’s grateful.

Again as I said for the best I’m sure Matt is happier in the end with alkaline trio it’s him and his thing. However whatever you set to do professionally for over five years even if you understand your role, not having control over a situation and that professional work coming to an end not on your terms is going to make every human upset. I am not suggesting that there is bad blood at all or creating drama. I’m simply stating that that type of situation is upsetting if you’re happy with what you’re doing even if you feel like you’re a contractor and know it may come to an end, the lack of autonomy in a situation like that is hard to deal with. One day your life is playing amphitheaters, doing giant press tours on good morning America; the next it’s back to more of the indie style of level. It’s a large adjustment on your mental state when the flip switches like that and your day to day life completely changes, probably was when he joined as well.

Anyone that thinks he was not upset at all period unless he was already starting to be disgruntled with being in blink is delusional.

They hadn’t toured since 2019. It’s not like they were in the middle of a tour or album promo or anything and he was just suddenly dropped. It wasn’t just some sudden switch back to Tom.
