I think I dislike Kurt's voice and the production. I like the Beach production and In Utero, but I only like the songs on Nevermind. I'd definitely like Nevermind more if it sounded more like Bleach or In Utero.

Well Kurt didn't want the Nevermind production, so you know.  Butch Vig had to trick him into doing double trackings even by lying and saying he needed another take or forgot to hit record and such to get the layered sound you get on Nevermind.

It's in the Butch Vig Nevermind Documentary, pretty neat stuff.

The thing with Nirvana is that the profound cultural influence of their music justifies all the attention they receive.
No one at the time wrote a single song that reshaped culture or evoked even a fraction of the intense response Kurt Cobain achieved. His melodies stirred deep emotions, his raw vocal delivery amplified that impact. Like them or not, Nirvana’s recognition is well-deserved imo.

Yeah they began a new era and Smells Like Teen Spirit was probably the biggest song of the 90s.

You’re so stupid. Such a trash take. It sounds like you’re just talking about all of the generic and whiny wannabe punk bands that are actually just little emo posers that you listen to

At least they have more variety 🤷‍♂️

I could have easily called that you would say exactly this lol. Your contrarian takes are becoming so predictable that they aren’t contrarian!

Good point, it would actually be more edgy and contrarian for him to start taking a more mainstream view now

It's a fist that is pacy!

In Gilman Street they wrote "No Violence" on the walls but also threats to BJ for being a sellout, which is sorta ironic.

Here’s a fun story I put together. Going down the Nirvana rabbit hole I found out they played shows in Olympia, WA in their early days and Kurt had a gf there at a time. Olympia, WA is one of my favorite Rancid songs so I started wondering if Nirvana and Rancid ever crossed paths. Turns out Olympia, WA was written about the same girl Kurt was with! Kurt and Tim Armstrong are Eskimo brothers. The woman’s name is Tobi Vail:

W.e. similar demographics of fans.

NorCal and SoCal punk rock are both totally different. You should stick to talking about boybands my guy.

Yea and I totally get that too. I’m starting to think of them less as overrated and more so just being blown away on how they had such a big impact in such a short amount of time. There were only 938 days between the day Smells Like Teen Spirit was released and the day Kurt killed himself. That’s barely over 2.5 years! That would be like if Tom or Mark offed themself a couple months after the release of TOYPAJ (looking at a timeline starting of the release of WMAA when they really blew up). It’s just nuts to me what Kurt did. Speaking of Green Day, Kurt was a walking contradiction.

yeah, his mother was known to have said "Kurt isn't ready for this" and this explains better than anything else his untimely death.

So you're really going to sit here and argue today on this mid Wednesday that fans of Blink & Green Day fans were not similar and had overlap?

The sounds were different, demographic of fans were pretty similar or overlap.

Yea it’s a shame he couldn’t get clean. Didn’t seem like he really wanted to. The airport story with Kurt punching Krist in the face, running off saying “Fuck you!” being the last time Krist saw him alive is heartbreaking.

When did I say there wasn’t overlap? Just the use of the word overlap indicates that we’re talking about two different things, does it not?

I once wrote a paper on how cool censorship in music is. I wrote about Eminem and Barry McGuire, but Green Day is a prime example. Except for in their covers there is no swearing on their indie records because they weren't allowed to. Dookie was a lot edgier and probably sold more because of that edginess. If they put Fuck off and die on their record cover it would probably not sell as much. And Longview needed censoring as well. But that form of cool censorship really sells. I think the same goes for Jackass and South Park. That it being bleeped made it appealing to some people.

Nirvana is one of those bands I've "hated" all of my life, but when a song actually comes on I think "eh that's pretty good."

Have never listened to an entire or even half of an album though.

If you're referring to the montage of heck interview, I felt like this was total and utter BS, twisted, only-in-hindsight sorta shit somebody would say to sound like they have wisdom they don't actually have. from what I can tell she wasn't a great mother but once fame hit, it was a different story. textbook narcissist.

dude. go listen to Nevermind please. In Utero is better, but it is a reaction to Nevermind and it's better when you know this and see "yeah, this is the band at it's best".

incredible band

Yea same. I’m not afraid to say I think Smells Like Teen Spirit is their best song though. I’ve been trying to get all the way through their albums. I get the impact they had but I just can’t get around the fact their body of work isn’t that large, especially when it comes to amazing songs. I really do like Lithium too tho, that’s becoming my jam.
