Champ182
Yeah the consensus on that new Alkaline album was good, I've just never been a big fan of them in general and his Blink contributions didn't make me all that excited about adding MORE of him to the mix. I don't find his songwriting to be unique or exciting in his own band, and he obviously and understandably doesn't care nearly as much about Blink so I'd rather just have this version of the band be as much pure undistilled Mark + Travis as possible. He's passable as a space filler but I don't need him stepping up beyond that as a co-frontman.

More Jan You Know
17 minutes ago, Ghent said: They split the Matt song vocals because he was new to the band and they wanted to make sure the new material sounded like blink...not an Alkaline Trio remarded step child. Which is what by all accounts they were churning out before meeting with Feldy and delivering the magic. I'm sure there will be some Matt only songs on the new album because he is far more established in the band now and his material has gone over very well both live and recorded. A full smorgasburg of Fan Fiction!

Radioactive Ghent
I'm sure Mark and Travis love throwing away great tunes. and if Hey I'm Sorry was the best of that crop, then I really shudder to think how bad the rest were

Hey I'm Sorry was the right direction and top 3 no question if you remove the intro..which was added after the fact anyways.
Nosferatu
Hey I'm Sorry is great until Feldman decided to take a shit on the chorus.

Everyone was all over the Skiba songs from the get go and found the Dan songs much harder to get into.
Nosferatu
Mark is always insecure about his own songs. He's said that himself. So he'll think anything he writes is shit. The guy barely talks of Kaleidoscope, one of the greatest blink songs. Barely talks about +44. He hates his own stuff. He needed an ego to tell him otherwise. Tom was no longer there. So then came in Feldman, who only cares about selling the most albums which means his opinion on what is a great song or not is very misguided too. And we can all admit that Hey I'm Sorry, especially in the verses is far from a radio friendly/mainstream kinda sound, so of course he'll convince blink to scrap the original material if they were similar sounding to that song. Plus it's blink. Not every song would've sounded like that. All of them would've been completely different to each other, based on how the smiley face album sounded, +44, Neighborhoods and DED. So none of them really would've been similar to that song. They'd only be similar in the regard that all the songs would've been weird, dark, moody, mellow, slow or whatever, considering that's actually what Mark naturally writes nowadays. As for Travis, he don't care as long as he plays drums so he won't give too much shit if it's good or not. The guy just loves working as a band and smashing the shit outta his drums. Skiba probably didn't know how to handle the situation. He's not gonna be hands on the way Tom was. Whether blink thought they were good or not, doesn't mean anything. Most blink fans seem to like Hey I'm Sorry outside of the intro and chorus.

I clearly remember a radio interview with Mark where he said it was one of the first songs they wrote for California but it sounded like some other songs they had so it didn't make the album but somehow this was misunderstood.
Champ182
I thought they mentioned that it was the only one that survived from the original pre-Feldy stuff, but I'm not sure. Either way I imagine it changed quite a bit when they brought it to the actual Cali sessions. The verses and pre-chorus parts are really cool and closer to what I expected from the forty-something Blink 1-Skiba-2, but the intro and chorus parts are awful, and the vocal/drums bridge is enough to turn the song off completely haha. The digital sounding guitars blasting out of nowhere in the chorus make me so sad. Like a lot of the Feldy songs, it feels Frankensteined together and any good ideas lost their charm after being put through the machine.

Elisa
So it was written for California, not before California. We'll never get to hear what they came up with when Feldy wasn't around.
Ghost
Weird. I remember Mark saying in some interview prior to the release of the original California, that Hey I'm Sorry was the one that survived from their first demoing sesions before Feldmann came in, and the only one, between 30 demos or so, that ended up being on the finsl record, but 'revisited' by Feldmann. What I don't recall is which interview was that, but I remember it pretty clearly.
