people who shit on it because of Feldmann but at the same time praise OMT as if Travis’s production is any better lol.

A lot goes into making an album, but they are an interesting comparison since both Cali and OMT are interested in recapturing some of the glory days magic. For me it goes something like this:

Songwriting/Creativity: OMT >>> Cali

Sound of Instruments: Cali > OMT

Song Quality: OMT >>>> Cali

I mean, it’s a toss up for me.  As much as I think Travis is a pretentious turd, I do think it sounds better than Cali.  The guitars sound more like blink. Tom sounds good/better than whatever vocal effects I’d imagine Feldmann would throw on there like he did Skiba. Mark sounds better (sort of? At least subject matter and stuff). The effects and extra aren’t nearly as offensive as Cali (Los Angeles vs. Terrified).  The drums are both overbearing. Cali was way to formulaic (Feldmann influenced).

But Travis did, as the drummer, did decide to insert himself as the loudest instrument by far (which is tough to swallow) and did insert his Fell in Love nonsense in there.  Feldmann tries to cater to so-cal kids/teen crowds, Travis tries to cater to the young hip hop/pop crowd.

Aaron Rubin was really the guiding light and best decision maker out there. Based on everything that’s come out, he seems the most grounded. He’s got some AvA-lite in him, at the worst.

The go-to joke perfomers would do was calling it Pine Knob instead of DTE, but you're right with the name change. Now they can do an inverse of the joke. lol

I was a few rows back from stage left. Good show!

Yea blink def did that joke which was awesome! I don’t recall any other acts doing it but blink would always brag about how they remember when it was Pine Knob. My first blink concert was in 2001 at Pine Knob. But I remembered hating it so much when they changed it to DTE, and it took years for that to stick and call it that. Now it’s hard to go back to Pine Knob even though that’s the rightful name lol

Good stuff! I loved listening to this. A very insightful interview, even though Travis really has no idea about blink timelines lol he says that Skiba was in the band for 3/4 years, that right after the first breakup he jumped into his collaboration with DJ AM (it actually started in 2008) and forgot all about +44, but it doesn't matter, thanks for sharing!

yeah the rubin interview is surprisingly good; he sticks to some talking points but mostly it’s fairly illuminating. some interesting insight on why they play with a click/backing tracks too. i thought his observations about why tom came back — outright saying that the band was successful without him and it was a “wake up call” — were revealing. it’s in line with how we felt as fans. i feel like the fanbase is so attuned to the way the band is. we knew in 2020 the vibes were off right after NINE. we could tell something was going on. it’s interesting

I think Sober slaps and I don't care who knows it. It always transports me to fall 2016 and when I saw blink for the first time at DTE/Pine Knob.

Hell yes, I know it ain't everyone's cup of tea but I also love this one.

I do appreciate Travis' willingness to do a lot of these longform interviews for podcasts lately, considering Mark and Tom have done absolutely zero media for OMT beyond the Zane interview.

This is genuinely one of the better interviews Travis has done, and it helps that Rick is asking him a shit ton of questions and follow ups on basically his timeline as a musician. We can hate on Travis for being Kardashian'd or continue this weird 5 month diatribe about his producing, but you really are reminded in that interview that the dude is a fucking music nerd and blink really is lucky that he fell into their lap.

yeah they’re such solid listens. it’s like hearing new music for the first time but yet your ears aren’t too scared since it’s recognizable stuff too

MGK just cannot decide which anime character he wants to be.

Still cooler than Cringinem.

Would expect you to say that since you value looks and image more than soul and talent
