I can do without the rich girl parties thing though (felt like this came up a few times now Tom likes singing about high school girlfriend parties a bit too much lately), better than other shit they’ve been on

Didn’t you hear about Tom and his wife being swingers? All these lyrics are obviously in relation to the rich girls he’s banging with his wife.

This is why I actually think One More Time... was the perfect come back album for them with Tom in the band, they span genres and styles so comfortably on the album and hit different eras of blink.

It's also what makes me love them more. I never bore of Blink cause they're always trying different things and it's always decent at the very least.

Anyway I really hope there's more new music in the years to come.

If You Never Left feels like such a strange song to write about an ex when you're in a stable or new relationship at the moment. I mean, I met my girlfriend three months ago, and just last week I wrote a song about a girl who left me when I was younger - But I stopped the story at the part where I was confused back then, asking things like 'What happened? Are you okay? How's your mother?'
That whole 'If you never left, would you still love me today?' angle just feels odd to me, even if you think about it sometimes. I'd rather believe someone else wrote that chorus or that Mark wrote it about Tom leaving the band, and then they reworked the song to make it about a couple's breakup.

I just listened to these songs in the best quality available online, and I'm happy to say that this time around, they definitely put more thought into the mixing. It's not Jerry Finn quality, but they're making progress.

Take Me In,  If You Never Left, Can't Go Back, No Fun. Massive.

How does Mark still write great songs about heartbreak when he's been with Skye since he was 27? Mad that he can still access those feelings so accurately.

Dude what are you even talking about?

They’ve all had breakups, even if they are in “stable” ones now

So true, I'm 32 and haven't been in school since 2016 and I could still write about the stress of an upcoming test or the awful teacher and the cool kids in class (and me feeling like a joke). Just because I'm in a different part of my life doesn't mean I can't write like I was back in that period of my life.

I agree with you 100% but this is a complete 180 on your skiba era views. Back then you criticised the shit out of the band for writing songs about breakups, being young etc cause they’re older now and should write about that.

After the second listen, I increasingly think that the songs are all growers. Before giving votes, I'd say that I like this retro atmosphere, a little new wave, a little 80s pop rock and a little Untitled'era.

Even though they contain sounds from all the various eras of the band, they are much more organic with each other than I thought. Surely given the vibe of the lyrics and a certain underlying melancholy, if you have recently had your heart broken this music has a certain effect...

The chorus of One Night Stand is so fucking catchy and the outro is great. This one might become one of my all time favorites.

All in all I really like these new songs and I'll be for sure listening over and over again the next few days.

The fact that everyone has different songs which stand out to them speaks to the diversity of this band. That's what I've always loved about them and the fans...

blink life. For life.

Yeahhh hitting a little extra in that department for me unfortunately haha.

I agree with everything you said, the songs have all gotten better with each listen. I love the elements they brought to the table overall, it feels very comfortable and I mean that as a compliment. I think Every Other Weekend, If You Never Left, and One Night Stand are probably the best "classic era" pop punk songs they've done since TOYPAJ. They don't sound forced, they don't sound gimmicky, they bring that melancholy new wave vibe, just solid, solid stuff.

They have matured a lot as songwriters. In this bunch of songs I hear many tempo changes, counterintuitive riffs and out-of-time phrasing that make the listening much less predictable.

And Tom's vocal performance is the best of the last 20 years, and in some ways his "mature" voice is almost more fascinating than that of the classic blink era.
