Alright, so here’s the final seeding. I’m listing the top 32 so people can get a sense of whether they want to do a 32-band bracket or just 16. Like for 32, crab for 16.* Sum 41 New Found Glory Descendents Ramones Screeching Weasel The Offspring NOFX Alkaline Trio Saves the Day Rancid My Chemical Romance Motion City Soundtrack Taking Back Sunday Yellowcard Lagwagon MxPx Fall Out Boy All Time Low The Story So Far Say Anything The Queers Sugarcult Paramore Neck Deep Machine Gun Kelly Simple Plan The Mr. T Experience The Wonder Years Fenix TX Brand New Good Charlotte Jawbreaker *Anything other than a crab will be interpreted as a vote in favour of 32, so choose accordingly.9 points

- Descendents - Ramones - SW - Lifetime - Riverdales - Queers - Saves the day - Teenage Bottlerocket - Jawbreaker - feel free to toss in either Taking Back Sunday or Brand New since they were all inspired by Lifetime/early Saves The Day and other 90s pop punk/emo bands that were playing in 3/4 and I love that sound. Fall Out Boy were also inspired by that type of pop punk, but I'm a FOB hater.7 points

NFG Alkaline Trio MxPx Screeching Weasel NOFX Saves the Day Lifetime Lagwagon Descendents Rancid Some of these are questionably not pop punk IMO (Rancid, Fat Mike considers NOFX a melodic hardcore band) but it's tough when blink and green day are out lol.5 points

Use this thread to complain about the tournament and continue arguments from individual battle threads after they get locked. Full list of bands in case you don't want to zoom in on the above image...4 points

Dear You is the most accessible, Nasa. The bridge of Accident Prone is giving me all the feelings right now. That song will make you cry and call Bagel's ex ballerina and apologise to her for something he didn't even do.4 points
-
@Elisa@Yang Gang was Punk Rock Okay...I'm backing this. Gives me an American Pie vibe, they're playing a house party...I can get onboard with this. Saves The fucken Day it is!4 points

I think this is a good occasion to check out the album Through Being Cool4 points

A vote for Alkaline Trio means you love blink-182 with Feldmann and Skiba4 points

this may be worse than the whole "lizard people exist" thing4 points

'Like' my comment if you forgot about GOLDFINGER and want them in the 32nd spot, crab it if they should fuck off it.4 points

This is fantastic. I can't believe I'm listening to these demos in this quality. The Uranus sound is unreal, I love it so much and I can actually hear it in The Girl Next Door too.4 points
-
gotta wonder how the lurkers feel about this absolute shitshow of a message board.3 points
-
Neck Deep are painfully generic. Saves the Day all day every day.3 points
-
Plus, the singer is clearly a midget and you don't want to be seen as someone who goes against those with disabilities.3 points
-
they were never really big here in europe so it might be why some people like bagel or maddy have never heard of them3 points
-
Neck Deep are fucking dreadful.3 points

I agree. And The Girl Next Door was in their setlist in late 1995. I remember it being in the October 95 Fort Worth Texas show.3 points

I'd never heard Saves The Day before, barely heard Neck Deep either but heard of them so I did a YouTube search on both. I listened (scammed) through the two top songs from Neck Deep and I can't stand his voice. The first song from Saves The Day was Shoulder To The Wheel and that was awesome, even made it to my playlist. It reminds me of another band but I can't put my finger on it and it drives me crazy. I'll be voting Saves The Day.2 points

The album was a big "fuck you" to the scene and fans when it came out. It's part of what made it so great ... it was also panned like Weezer's Pinkerton.2 points
-
yup i saw them play it more than once in 1995. same with the uranus tracks and "leia." heck they were playing "zulu" in 94!2 points

My plan is to have no more than 4 competition threads open at a time, so hopefully it shouldn't be too much of a hassle to keep track of them. I can also post links to each thread in the pinned thread for the tournament. I like having the threads in this section because it gets the most traffic, but if enough people are really bothered, we can move them elsewhere.2 points

Voted Trio for this one. Even though my girlfriend love the MGK album and have to listen to it in the car all the time I've never could get into his voice, it bugs me for some reason and I can't look past it Also, love trio ofc2 points
-
Yeah, age for sure, but also the fact that bands from that era like Saves The Day, Brand New, TBS or MCS were pretty big in the UK but always played small shows in mainland Europe.2 points
-
That's the tragic thing about them. It's what they deserved, but when Dear You came out...fuck. So many of the songs on that record are catchy as shit. Lets fight for the little guy2 points
-
I have a deep seething hatred for Sum 41 so Jawbreaker gets my vote by default.2 points
-
I'm team Jawbreaker all the way. I know Sum 41 are important but they never wrote songs as beautiful as Accident Prone or Kiss The Bottle..2 points
-
Why do you change your username every 4 hours? Are you 12?2 points
-
If this was Jawbreaker (the song by MGK) it would be a no brainer. But it's not, so Sum-41 it is.2 points

I'd vote Simple Plan over NoFX... No pads....No helmets...Just balls! That album booklet had some some nice racks. Had some good times with it2 points

I think I'll make voting anonymous so people can vote with their hearts and don't have to worry about being shamed.2 points

I mostly just don't care for his sound. He has a very distinct production style and it tends to be overpolished and I'm not a fan. It sounds plastic to me. That's my only criticism though and it's a personal preference ... its not like I could do anything remotely on par with what he does.2 points
-
You can't chicken out now, Jan. Don't you want to see the hilarity of Simple Plan vs. NOFX?2 points

I keep going back and forth between wanting to throw in a list but then not being very passionate about pop punk or genre arguments Ah well, here are my favorites from when I was most into pop-punk. I don't know who counts or doesn't count as pop-punk but whatever: Blink Green Day Motion City Soundtrack MxPx Sum 41 New Found Glory Saves The Day Rancid The Ramones2 points

oh yes, maybe not the best band ever, but they had huge riffs and huge choruses and their sound has aged so well2 points

Hey all — link below for the MP3s! The quality is UNREAL. I’m excited to hear everyone’s thoughts. The New Hope demo… I have no words. @daveyjones is going to pop in with some more details! HUGE thank you to Davey for this. Not only for doing the legwork and sharing his knowledge (as always), but also for being a lovely human with endless love and positivity for this band. I’m super excited to have this little tape, but it would be pretty useless without your help, Davey, and without communities like this. Anyway, enjoy!! https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1WoMCY098fJ9acgGMwVQfu5dlDiYBs55V?usp=sharing2 points
