He's been a heavy drinker since I can remember. Kind of worried about him for a while. Wasn't he joking he was playing for heroin or something? He has a very dark sense of humor. I remember reading he was a priest in the church of satan. Seems like he knows how to have a good time.

He was on the verge when the Sekrets album came out. I can remember his tran wreck onstage. He just saw himself and was so embarassed that took some time off, worked on him, and he's fully recovered.

But you know what? First step is to recognice your mistakes. He did. Guess who's not doing that...

Saw them play last summer.

I particularly like this song (wasn't on an album, think it was on an atticus compilation)

^I'm not even a huge fan of this band, I do like a fair amount of their songs, but I'm totally sold on Matt Skiba, I can see that he is a very talented musician, that gives it his all.

Wow, Jacked On Green Beers is one of my favs. Remains, that B-Sides album is awesome. It really works as a regular album. Skiba, back in the day, did things like this. The songs he recorded for that split CD are one of the best songs he ever wrote. all on his own:

Also, Babylon, the album he put with The Sekrets (side project), had a nice batch of songs. For example check this song. Really catchy:

Seriously, guys. If you feel a little interest on Alkaline Trio, go explore them, as Alkaline Trio, or as the side projects of its members. You'll find some gems out there.

seriously, fuck it. its all good. it just takes some time to appreciate all of it. but once you do, its the best. excellent live band as well. they always play at this old massive church when they go through michigan and everyone gets drunk and loses their minds.

I want to mention something I really respect about Alkaline Trio. This doesn't mean it would be translated to blink, because they are different bands with differnt people involved, but here, in this thread we're talking about AK3, HA!. So, the thing is I really like how they ALWAYS respect their own legacy. Of course, when they release a new album, they play a lot of that stuff, but is not surprising to se an AK3 show promoting their last release, and have the chance to hear some blasts from the past like "Cop", "Clavicle" or "Cringe. Which is awesome. That's a thing I always missed in other bands.

Also, lateley, they did the Past Live tour, which consisted on play ALL their albums live, in different nights, but all their discography. That means they played songs that never were played live. Like never, ever.

I also remember when they, back in 2006 or so, after release Crimson, they did the Occult Roots tour, in which -bascally- they were performing Goddamnit in its entirely. Can you imagine bands playing their first records after their most commercial album?

They live in different cities (all in USA) and they are able to go forward with new stuff and then, boom, putting this kind of stuff from time to time.

Respect.

Can I go on the fanboy mode? Here we go, a little blast from the glorious Good Mourning. His voice was fucked up as hell due to alcohol and smoking. But at the same time, I love how raspy and raw sounds on that album:

Can't believe so many people on this site haven't given trio a listen!

I really like My Shame is True, definitely underrated.

I'll always fight for Dan. Matt had the traditional punk voice, but Dan is the better song writer. now, in the early days of alkaline, one could probably argue that Matt had better songs; however, at some point, they switched.

now I sit back in confusion every time they release a new album and the flawless Dan songs are b-sides while Matt's half assed material makes the cut.

don't get me wrong, Matt can still write great music. he proves this with his other bands that he does on the side. I think he's just burned out on Trio songs.
