boxelder Posted September 15, 2024 Posted September 15, 2024 A smart, funny, and refreshing memoir from Mark Hoppus, the vocalist, bassist, and founding member of pop-punk band blink-182. This is a story of what happens when an angst-ridden kid who grew up in the desert experiences his parents’ bitter divorce, moves around the country, switches identities from dork to goth to skate punk, and eventually meets his best friend who just so happens to be his musical soulmate. Bassist, songwriter, and vocalist for renowned pop-punk trailblazers blink-182, Mark Hoppus, tells his story in Fahrenheit-182. A memoir that paints a vivid picture of what it was like to grow up in the 1980s as a latchkey kid hooked on punk rock, skateboards, and MTV; Mark Hoppus shares how he came of age and forms one of the biggest bands of his generation. Threaded through with the very human story of a constant battle with anxiety and Mark’s public battle and triumph over cancer, Fahrenheit-182 is a delight for fans and also a funny, smart, and relatable memoir for anyone who has wanted to quit but kept going. 6 1 Quote
boxelder Posted September 15, 2024 Author Posted September 15, 2024 immensely excited for this. dan ozzi wrote that great book sellout a few years back about the 90s punk explosion. i was surprised to see a ghostwriter considering how voracious of a reader mark is, but i suppose it will only make his story better. it's 400 pages according to the listings which is pleeeeenty of room to get into his story. i love the cover art and how it harkens back to the untitled colors but also the sex pistols sort-of imagery. and i think the title is truly hilarious -- it couldn't be better. so excited! 5 Quote
Scott. Posted September 15, 2024 Posted September 15, 2024 Can’t wait for this. Any idea when it’s out? edit - fuck me it’s in the title 🤣 2 Quote

M!ke Posted September 16, 2024 Posted September 16, 2024 Will definitely be reading this on day 1 2 Quote
Ghent Posted September 16, 2024 Posted September 16, 2024 I actually enjoyed Travis’ book quite a bit, but he went out of his way to galvanize the image he wants people to have of him (understandable, but I just happen to find that image cringe in a lot of ways). His personal general audience is different than the average blink fan. I think this has a chance to be a much deeper and relatable story and should have a lot of stories and random tidbits we haven’t heard. 4 Quote
Paparazzi Magnet Posted September 16, 2024 Posted September 16, 2024 I wasn’t interested in Trav’s book. If Tom wrote a book I’d probably be into it but skim a lot of the To The Stars crap. This actually seems like it would be interesting from start to finish, so I’ll definitely be going out of my way to read this. Mark’s just full on blink-182 and a super relatable guy. 1 Quote
Speedo Posted September 16, 2024 Posted September 16, 2024 I still hate his stupid looking haircut. 3 Quote

Coddled Jan Posted September 16, 2024 Posted September 16, 2024 The haircut was just super cool around the +44 days, he just decided to never stop. 1 Quote

I feel like we’ve said this about Mark so many times and it just rarely happens anymore lol. Happy to be surprised now, but not holding breath it’s not largely surface level. Hearing about the old days will be fun regardless. 1 Quote
Speedo Posted September 16, 2024 Posted September 16, 2024 Mark is the most PR friendly of the three, I doubt there’s gonna be much inside controversy to any of it. 2 Quote
Champ182 Posted September 16, 2024 Posted September 16, 2024 Hell yeah! Dan Ozzi is great as well, I think this will be fascinating. 2 Quote
