definitely an enjoyable listen, even if it was mostly stories we’ve heard before and whatnot. mark sounds like he really enjoyed it at the end of the call, but it still seems like to me tom views blink in past tense at all times. and of course, that makes sense, the bands been broken up for years. but he always talks about it through this lens of “who we were” and … i don’t know, i guess i don’t understand if you had all the money and time in the world to at least TRY to make something new and creative with a beloved band of yours why you wouldn’t want to do it.

he totally does. AVA is his present life, and although him and mark are still close friends, he ain't ever coming back.

He keeps saying he will though and they just have to figure out when it'll work out. and last he spoke of Skiba just called him a fill-in doing his job for him. Plus I forget which interview, but a recent one where he said after the tour run AvA is probably going quiet for a while. I suppose that could mean he's doing more "feature film" garbage but whatever. He keeps leading on that he's coming back and he talks to Mark and Travis "all the time" about when that makes sense.

It's a shame all these 20yr anniversaries are coming and going without real celebrations and shows for them with the right lineup.

I'm pretty sure the last time he talked about Skiba was last year and he said he has always liked him.

Shoutout to the guy in europe that got them the stickers!

that was actually the russian guy selling the inaccurate garbage on etsy. i got my correct art to @blinkstillruleswho then printed them and got them to jeff and thus tom. they were only delivered yesterday; the podcast call with mark was back in mid-june.

Because blink is a money machine that takes insane amounts of time and energy. You do it to make a fuck ton of money. Tom has enough money to never work again so there’s no reason to keep doing it. He’s alluded to this in a recent interview about having as much money as you ever want makes you lose your drive. Even if Tom does like blink, it doesn’t make sense to get the enjoyable moments for the painful amount of work of being in a band that large. Tom can write Ava in his spare time with full control, be a dad bumming around Encinitas, and do to the stars to get his paranormal fix. No coordination with three equal band members, no endless meetings with the label about how to market the next blink album, no insane production to manage on a tour with a crew of 100 people. If money doesn’t drive you anymore, you don’t like fame, you don’t like to tour, and you have other creative outlets; I don’t see why you would still do blink. Tom is all of those things. Dude just wants to chill out for the rest of his life in so cal and do work things when he feels like it. I still think he would do an album with Mark if it was no strings attached to the megalith that is blink.

Why would he say european guy then? Maybe you guys had the same idea at the same time and one arrived earlier.

we know this from communicating with jeff. it's the russian etsy pack.

tom said "some guy in europe" and we can take it one of two ways:

a.) russia is indeed partially in europe. tom is smart.

b.) tom doesn't exactly remember what jeff told him. tom is dumb.

pick your favorite explanation!

he said it in the pursuit of tone documentary (2016). blink "doesn't fulfill" him.

Idk why this upsets you, I'm just big on giving credit where it's due and I think it's rad that guy is an essential party in the restore the strat operation. OG blink fans appreciate this sort of thing

ok i get now that you're trolling. har har har depf ?

i'm in a work zone right now (late at night here for me) and when i'm working i can get pretty literal.

That was a fun listen. This would never happen, but it would be amazing for Mark and Tom to start a podcast together. Kinda like the old HMNIM podcast, but with both of them. Never happening, but would definitely be enjoyable. It's heartwarming to hear them talking and laughing and being friends again.

Definitely a very interesting interview indeed and learnt some new trivia too! (such as the M.Night Shyamalan story and the Dude Ranch label meeting story), never heard of those before!

Really cool hearing Tom talking how they were the odd man out and talking about the other punk labels of that time (Fat Wreck Chords and Epitaph) and also it's amazing to hear that they mention Scott too!

really? us gear nerds got some great new info...

i'm tickled that i asked mark to ask tom about his sticker strat and he did. tom reports he is restickering it (with my sticker art that arrived just yesterday, not "some guy in europe" which refers to the russian etsy garbage that jeff originally bought). props to @blinkstillrulesfor making sure jeff got the correct stickers!

tom also confirmed that dude ranch was recorded with the sticker strat. that was a question that @blinkstillrulesasked mark to ask tom. people have been arguing for years on reddit (like people do) about that, so i'm glad tom himself was able to put it to rest.

plus just hearing the guys chuckle and chat together was a real nice time. it wasn't supposed to be an interview with any great revelations. and yet the gear nerds got not one but two gems out of it!

Yep there was some solid confirmation of gear nerd information.

I always thought Dude Ranch was recorded with the Sticker Strat/X2N and Tom has confirmed it was.

So many people love to claim Dude Ranch was recorded with Tom's "Dude Ranch" Les Pauls. I always knew that wasn't the case because Tom didn't get them until fall 1997. The black one Jon Poulin bought was made July 31 1997 according to the serial number.

Also aside from the gear nerd stuff, it was awesome to hear to old best friends just reconnect and chat without missing a beat.

And as Davey said, I mailed Tom a set of stickers last Friday. They have arrived so know we wait and see if the strat gets restickered.

Dude, siberia is closer to Los Angeles than Berlin.  way closer.

It's the shitty, inaccurate Russian pack.

Luckily Jeff isn't using them. I got him the legit, real deal. They arrived on Monday.
