When you hear songs live or demos and love them, they almost never live up to the hype. Can't Go Back blew it out of the water though. Yeah, I was afraid that in the studio it would lose the live atmosphere, as happened to GOTD and After Midnight: very promising during the first dates of the Honda Civic Tour, but without transposing the same vibe on the studio record. In this regard, unlike the first reunion, today it's a totally different era for blink: at the time those two songs - which I personally love - didn't have much impact on the crowd when they played them live before releasing them... while last year in Bologna the whole arena was blown up for Dance With Me and More Than You Know, released just the day before. WPGBlink Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 The back half of Every Other Weekend is definitely a peak moment of the OMT era of blink for me. The Cure vibes with the instrumentation, Mark's vocals flying in and hitting the bullseye, and then finishing it off with the "every time I watch you gooooo" from both Tom/Mark. Just beautiful. 4 1 Quote
Ghost Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 Firstly, when they announced 'OMT... Part 2' I though "Jesus, just release them as a new EP". Later, when I realized the 8 songs + the 2 other ones released just after the official OMT release were basically a whole new record, I though: "Jesus f'ing Christ, why in the hell they didn't held those songs to release a new 10 songs album"? But I get it. They pretty much come from the same period of writing and recording, so the overall mood is pretty similar, although there's a noticeable change in feel in the new ones, like some of you have said in this thread. They sound mellower, or darker, so to say. I don't know. They feel slightly different. So it makes sense to release them under the same umbrella, I guess, but also as an expansion of the original tracklist. Anyways, this new songs are pointing to a different musical landscape. They are blending really well all their influences and side project visions, and the result is fantastic. I'm not expecting blink doing anything too experimental, but I do expect them to explore that path they have showed us in songs like Can't Go Back (qhich, in the end, connects directly to the Untitled era feeling). Also, I agree Take Me In sounds like Childhood Part 2, or like what Childhood wanted to be, but I preffer Childhood over Take Me in, I guess. My only complain is the production on Chilhood, which has been talked enough. 3 Quote

It’s missing that imo. 2 Quote

Elisa Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 I'm obsessed with If You Never Left, the guitar at the end is pure Tom Delongeness. 3 Quote

Back then you criticised the shit out of the band for writing songs about breakups, being young etc cause they’re older now and should write about that. To play devil’s advocate, songs like that do feel more authentic with Tom in the band, since he never lost his immature, adolescent persona. Even during peak “I’M A SERIOUS ARTIST” era early on in AVA, he still told jokes about spreading barbecue sauce on his buttcheeks when I saw them live. I agree there’s definitely a bit of hypocrisy, but I get why those songs might feel more appropriate now than in the Skiba era. But also I’m admittedly a Tombot, so I can do plenty of mental gymnastics to justify liking this more than California. 2 1 Quote

All these lyrics are obviously in relation to the rich girls he’s banging with his wife. I’m ashamed to admit I googled this to see if it was true… I’m a dumbass 1 Quote

Elisa Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 the only thing i could do without is Mark's metallic voice, i can't believe there is no way to make him sound normal? 5 Quote

What’s weird is that there’s moments (like If You Never Left chorus, first verse on All In My Head) where he does sound perfectly normal. And better. I don’t get the heavy effects either 1 Quote

Still just okay just not great. Quote
2point5 Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 Didn't he say his vocal chords were completely wrecked by the chemotherapy? I think it's okay if he gets a few touch ups here and there. 1 1 Quote

Knapppers Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 His voice definitely doesn't have as much oomph as it used to have. He seems to sing a lot softer now. Quote
Scott. Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 I dunno I think he sounds great live so why they have to touch him up so much is beyond me. 4 Quote
