Knapppers Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 Finally getting Spotify versions here. Almost have a fucking tear in my eye listening to Cant Go Back, its just so perfect to me 3 Quote
thecurseofchris Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 Great tracks front to back. Production is definitely better here than on the standard OMT. Glad to hear a lot of Mark, and I think his vocals have improved here when compared to OMT (assuming these were recorded after). Can't wait to see what the boys come up with next! 1 Quote

At the moment I’m saying Take Me In is the weakest (but still enjoyed) with Can’t Go Back and Every Other Weekend being my favourites. Might post more opinions tomorrow but just wanted to quickly say how blown away I am. Two years after Tom coming back, I’m still in disbelief about the whole thing, they’re fucking smashing it at the moment, so happy. yes those r real great "blink" songs, glad they made u feel that way Quote

Yup, Tom belting that chorus and the guitar drop at the end do things for me. Something about Tom yelling “and everything sucks!” is too good. I can do without the rich girl parties thing though (felt like this came up a few times now Tom likes singing about high school girlfriend parties a bit too much lately), better than other shit they’ve been on though. Something about roommate is mad she can’t get laid? Wtf Tom lol. 1 Quote

All these lyrics are obviously in relation to the rich girls he’s banging with his wife. 2 Quote
Bucko Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 This is why I actually think One More Time... was the perfect come back album for them with Tom in the band, they span genres and styles so comfortably on the album and hit different eras of blink. It's also what makes me love them more. I never bore of Blink cause they're always trying different things and it's always decent at the very least. Anyway I really hope there's more new music in the years to come. 2 Quote

Popular Post Elisa Posted September 6, 2024 Popular Post Posted September 6, 2024 No Fun & All In My Head = they feel like the belong to OMT (the actual album) – it doesn't matter if the lyrics aren't too great, these songs are catchy, loud, fun and pretty much in your face like all the other songs on OMT. "Can't Go Back" to "Take Me In" is where I think this new batch of songs feel cohesive as a whole, those six songs don't sound like random b-sides, they all have a toned down vibe, the bass and guitar are kind new wavey, and they bring nothing but good energy. Can't Go Back = perfect song. Every Other Weekend = feels like it's straight out of Neighbourhoods and blink is pushing their "Cure" influences. The funny thing about The Cure is that their gloom can be as heavy as their joy is bright and buoyant, and blink are just the same, they can really do both things as well and when they do it, it works. Everyone Everywhere = it was very alienating on the first listen because of the odd pacing, but it got better this morning. I think the last minute is what makes it a good one. Is this the sister song of Terrified? If You Never Left = my favorite song. It has that kind of melody only blink can make. Mark's bridge rocks. This song just makes me happy. One Night Stand = I really like the nostalgic vibe, Mark and Tom sharing the song, the ending with all the vocal layers and the BTD kind of intro. Take Me In = it's way better than Childhood, such a solid epilogue for an album that has brought a lot of emotions out of me. Are there modern production aspects I'm not so fond of? sure... but to have these dudes, loving each other again and making these tunes full of joy and melancholy at the same time is everything to me. The problem now is that it feels like the dad who left to get milk 20 years ago is back to stay so if blink breaks up again it will really crush me. 10 2 Quote
thongrider Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 I love Take Me In. Even the bridge. The rest of the songs I can take or leave on first listen. 1 Quote
_Bagel Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 Take Me In, If You Never Left, Can't Go Back, No Fun. Massive. How does Mark still write great songs about heartbreak when he's been with Skye since he was 27? Mad that he can still access those feelings so accurately. 1 Quote

I mean, I met my girlfriend three months ago, and just last week I wrote a song about a girl who left me when I was younger - But I stopped the story at the part where I was confused back then, asking things like 'What happened? Are you okay? How's your mother?' That whole 'If you never left, would you still love me today?' angle just feels odd to me, even if you think about it sometimes. I'd rather believe someone else wrote that chorus or that Mark wrote it about Tom leaving the band, and then they reworked the song to make it about a couple's breakup. Dude what are you even talking about? They’ve all had breakups, even if they are in “stable” ones now Quote

Just because I'm in a different part of my life doesn't mean I can't write like I was back in that period of my life. Quote

Back then you criticised the shit out of the band for writing songs about breakups, being young etc cause they’re older now and should write about that. 2 Quote
Frank Woods Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 After the second listen, I increasingly think that the songs are all growers. Before giving votes, I'd say that I like this retro atmosphere, a little new wave, a little 80s pop rock and a little Untitled'era. Even though they contain sounds from all the various eras of the band, they are much more organic with each other than I thought. Surely given the vibe of the lyrics and a certain underlying melancholy, if you have recently had your heart broken this music has a certain effect... 2 Quote
