Cheerios4u98 Posted July 17, 2020 Posted July 17, 2020 Yeah I almost never check this section anymore either. I think I’ve completely missed a couple recent collabs. Quote

And people were accusing tom of recycling riffs (tom's are better). It doesn’t always have to be one or the other is guilty of something. Tom and mark can both have problems with the same thing. Personally I think Tom recycles riffs, but Tom has embraced a very specific niche style that he has never strayed from his entire career. Not really going to complain about it, it’s what he knows and recycled riffs are going to come with it. Ilans definitely helped in adding variation and adding small little tweaks to differentiate sameyness in toms style. 3 Quote
CatDude Posted July 17, 2020 Posted July 17, 2020 I would love to hear this in a higher bitrate, the quality is terrible. Cool little song but the bass sounds like something from a Lil Wayne song. I like it, but it's a bit loud. Also love that weird sound effect at the beginning. I'm surprised they didn't finish this. Sounds great, like something right off of California. Quote
boxelder Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 ?♂️ will never understand how this band, three decades deep in their career, continue to rewrite its own songs in the most boring imaginable way 2 1 Quote

Tom recycles his own riffs, while blink recycle his adam's song riff 5 years after he left. Hardly the same thing. 1 Quote
Nosferatu Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 I actually can't remember when Tom last recycled riffs? It was common during the Neighborhoods/LOVE era but I've never really heard any songs from after that where they have a recycled riff. It was only during that period where he'd recycle stuff IMO. Coddled Jan Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 The only recycled riff that ever pissed me off by Tom was the 'Thunderstruck' riff on Young London. Besides that, love almost all his guitar work. Quote
Knapppers Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 Can only hear the clip and sounds not half bad. Also kinda suprised this is only 4 pages too lol. The full version still floating around anywhere? Quote
zzzz Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 Just listened to this again in my car, song is so catchy. Slaps! Quote
Low Value Boy Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 Haven't listened, would bet a lot of money on it being abysmal. 3 Quote

Within the first 90 seconds, there's defo a skeleton of a good bunch of ideas there (apart from the random animal noise). I love Mark's verses and I don't even care if it's another recycled guitar riff, but after that it just turns into something worse than a generic modern day blink song after that. I'm hoping Matt's vocal's were just generic holding lyrics before they revisited the song but probably scrapped that idea, because Matt wallowing just kills the flow of the song. I'm not sure if the full version of the demo has been pulled yet but the preview clip was the best part. According to sources, the metadata of the leak stated it's from 2019. Although it's not an entirely accurate timeline, this would suggest it was a demo from the NINE recording sessions, likely to have been something that was scrapped from the Feldmann sessions. Quote

Champ182 Posted July 19, 2020 Posted July 19, 2020 I still have never listened to probably half of AVA's catalog but the one time Tom's recycling really caught me offguard was in Everything's Magic. It's almost exactly the same as Anthem Pt. II Quote

Nosferatu Posted July 19, 2020 Posted July 19, 2020 Yeah, Anthem Part 2 and Everything's Magic are almost carbon copies, even if Tom does strum differently and add a couple more notes it's still similar. I feel like the post hardcore/BCR styled riffs he does for the Machine, Secret Crowds and Snake Charmer are similar too. Then the guitar in the verses of the Machine and Even If She Falls are similar. The riff of Young London is almost the same as the riff of Natives. He's also done it with vocal melodies like on the verses of GOTDF/There Is and the chorus of Surrender is basically the same as the verses of Adventure. Wolfpack's chorus sounds kinda like I Miss You as well. But at least most of his songs still sound completely different and don't follow the same formula. It was just around that 2007-2011 period (outside of Wolfpack) when he recycled quite a few ideas, but it was nowhere near as bad as the Adam's Song riff and BTD strumming pattern that blink have constantly been using. Well Adam's Song is one of the only songs Matt doesn't butcher live so this makes sense. It's not like they're gonna rip off riffs like WMAA when he still can't play that correctly. 1 Quote
